Album Review

Unbelievable… it’s just about a year ago, when MARTIN KILGER released his debut and now he’s already back with new material! This guy winning won a prize advertised by Joy Fleming at the age of seventeen, and stood in the back row of big music projects as a musician for a long time. Instantly MARTIN KILGER began his career as a sub-keyboarder in bands like SÖHNE MANNHEIMS, NINA HAGEN or ZOE. Since 2007, he supported SÖHNE MANNHEIMS as a solo artist and with his band even JOE COCKER. And now, within almost one year, MARTIN KILGER releases his second album ‘Nackt’ (Naked).

Just like ‘Wofür ich steh’, the second release is an album full of variety. From solid Rock with a lot of pop-songs to slow songs, MARTIN KILGER created an album with a lot of collaborations… care for examples? SARAHJAMMIN’ from Hamburg are even pictured on the back cover… naked! Sarah Jane McMinn (e.g. background voice of Ina Müller) intones ‘It Don’t Matter’, the only song in English. The most stunning collaboration is ‘Liebe’ with rapper Metaphysics, well-known from SÖHNE MANNHEIMS or MELLOWBAG. This song is awesome and my personal favourite song on ‘Nackt’. But what really stimulates my mind is the fact, that ‘Nackt’ is producing the atmosphere of a pure unplugged-release without being it all the time. ‘Nackt’ is rather minimalistic but pin pointed.

MARTIN KILGER is definitely an artist, German pop scene waited for a very long time. His music abilities are obviously awesome and you should listen to this beautiful release… first and foremost to ‘Liebe’…
