Album Review

Wow, fifteen years in existence and this is their debut album? Well, at least they've had time to practice then. They have certainly had time to mull over some of the 80's best guitar work at the very least.

Opener, 'Trouble', is a fast bass-driven piece that breaks out that early guitar sound and sprinkles it liberally throughout. 'King For To Days' feels a little more riff orientated with it's more discerning structure that is only let down by a couple of shaky vocal takes. 'She Runs' is a little more playful in its approach with a nice fun and fast approach that will no doubt get the bodies at the back of the crowd moving. 'Drawn Too' makes nice use of the JOY DIVISION style Drums and Synths for an added bit of atmosphere to an otherwise bluesy Goth ballad. 'Cut' is a toe taper with a nice bass-line and guitar combo, yet it feels a little lacking in parts - a bit more depth to the vocals and maybe some more interesting percussion over the drums might have shaken things up a bit more.

'Silence' is a nice easygoing song that could be a good sing-a-long opportunity when played live, but unfortunately fades into the background a bit on CD. 'Get Me Out' rocks things up again with a nice threatening guitar riff that adds some more gusto to the track list. 'Room With A View' keeps the momentum with another catchy and well performed piece of 80s guitar nostalgia that makes the most of it's riff. 'Manner Of Painting' however needs a couple of listens to truly get the most out of it with its fast-punk-ballad style. The finals song, 'End Of Time', is a simply sumptuous way to round off the album and is a blatant case of saving the best for last with this big number.

On the whole this is a pretty solid offering from what is essentially a veteran band. With many bands from the 80's reforming at the moment they could do worse than look in the direction of LOTUS FEED for inspiration.
