Album Review

KALT is a music vision offered by Mike York, an ex-member of GARDEN OF DELIGHT, his newest album ‘Dein Gott’ (Your God) is an invitation to immerse in a world it will evoke within you - a soundtrack for your inner search through your own landscapes of imagination and being. York’s with record label is also releasing only 999 copies with DVD cover of a double CD with a booklet of 16 pages of artwork and some other fan goodies. The album starts with ‘Lebe’ (Live!) evoking an intense feeling from the start and directs the journey, which is passionate as well as imagination stirring as promised. The piano and the vocal especially feel melancholy; I love the guitar interwoven into it with great sensitivity. ‘Ancient Dreams’ is a truly beautiful also, dark and pulling at the heart. Whilst York’s music is unique, there is a feeling I get with bands like THE MISSION and FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM. ‘The Darkness’ is energetic, with memorable and impassioned refrain.

‘No Way Back’ starts with a sound as if ship was leaving, quite fitting beginning to a song entitled, the lyrics and the dense sound lure one right in, the guitar towards the end is simply epic. York vocal penetrates the music with perfect intensity and expression. ‘Farewell’ has something PINK FLOYDIAN in the dreaminess of the guitar at the beginning then it enfolds into another gripping, captivating song. ‘Bildbeschreibung 1.2’ is an instrumental where I’ve particularly enjoyed the sounds of birds of the sea. The closing is an instrumental too, majestic in its scope and a superb finale - fittingly it’s entitled as ‘Fahr zur Hölle, Gott’ (Go to Hell, God). I love this album’s beauty, intensity, skilfulness, its way it doesn’t fail to dig deep and leave a memorable trace behind. It’s one I’m certainly going to play very often and I can’t recommend it enough, it’s excellent!
