Letzte Instanz & Lost Area

After releasing their latest album ‘Ewig’ already in 2012, the final part of the trilogy was such a success that the band decided to do an extension of the tour. Therefore, LETZTE INSTANZ added another 14 shows to the tour in order to further promote their album and please their fans. Potsdam was also part of their stops and so, fans made their ways to the Lindenpark in order to enjoy the music. This time, the band brought along LOST AREA as an support that heated the hall when entering the stage at around 9 pm.

Lost Area

The band was founded in 2003. Shortly after, the band self-released their first few songs, followed by the first album ‘Dare to Dream’ in 2006. Here, remixes from bands like BLUTENGEL or UNHEILIG were also featured. Many concerts in Europe followed. In 2008, their second album ‘Man Machine’ made its way into the public. The band gained more and more fans. Also, shows with PROJECT PITCHFORK, DIARY OF DREAMS and FUNKER VOGT were on the menu. LOST AREA changed their sound throughout the time, accompanied by line-up changes, getting a more guitar based sound today. Their latest piece ‘Destroying Something Beautiful’ came out in 2012. LOST AREA are Matteo VDiva Fabbiani (vocals), Jan Bertram (keyboard), Fabian Reißmüller (guitar) and Chris Fox (drums). http://www.lostarea.com/ / https://www.facebook.com/LostArea

Music & Performance
Only having heard some songs from LOST AREA, the band was really new to me. Expecting more or less electro-rock, the band delivered some nice gothic rock with electro elements. Although not having a bass on stage, the band came along with a good sound that driven by heavy guitar riffs. Matteo’s voice was rather charismatic which was quite surprising considering his edgy style. However, the voice could have been replaced by somebody else without any lost in the band’s style in my opinion. Although the band tried their best with catchy melodies and stunts on stage, the songs were pretty similar to each other. This led to the effect of forgetting about the performance shortly after the gig was done. The look of the band definitely stayed in my head longer than their songs - which is never good if you ask me.

Nevertheless, LOST AREA managed to heat up the LINDENPARK and got the audience into the right mood for the upcoming main act. Sadly, the opener’s sound faded shortly after the guys left the stage.

Letzte Instanz

LETZTE INSTANZ was founded in 1996 in Dresden. After they approached some labels under the former name RESISTANCE they signed a record deal with the label Costbar and recorded their first songs which are included on the first album. Later the band then changed their name to LETZTE INSTANZ. Before they even released their second album, singer Hörbi and bass player Kaspar left the band. Sebastian Lohse aka Robin Sohn and Rasta F. took over as singer and bass player. After the release of their fourth album ‘Götter auf Abruf’, again three members of the band (incl. the singer) left the band. With him a new era began for LETZTE INSTANZ which culminated in the 2012 release of ‘Ewig’, the final album of a trilogy started with ‘Schuldig’ and continued with 'Heilig'. LETZTE INSTANZ is Holly (vocals), M. Stolz (violin), B. Cellini (cello), Oli (guitar), Holly D. (guitar), Micha (bass) and David Pätsch (drums). http://www.letzte-instanz.de/ / http://www.facebook.com/letzteinstanz

Music & Performance
The concert started off as usual with LETZTE INSTANZ: one after another, the members entered the stage accompanied by ‘Aeternitas’, the first song of ‘Ewig’. The Lindenpark not being filled up to the last spot, a family-like mood immediately came up. The fans knew the songs and the band knew exactly how to please the audience. Being the second, additional, part of the “Ewig-Tour” one might have the fear that the setlist could be the same or the band may be tired. This was definitely not the case this night! The band had so much fun on stage, always interacting with the audience who also fulfilled their job by singing and dancing along to the versatile choice of songs, covering older but also newer ones, featuring – of course – a nice variety of the ‘Ewig’ album. This mixture evolved into an evening that had absolutely no boring or dragging moment whatsoever.

Sometimes, the cello and violin tend to lose their sounds along the way but this night, Benny’s and M. Stolz’ work was heard by everyone at the Lindenpark. However, the cello still needs to come a little into the foreground in order to give it the full credit it deserves. LETZTE INSTANZ’ performance leaves nothing to be desired. The guys have so much energy that there was no dry spot left on stage. Holly (vocals) always asked the fans to sing along and, of course, this offer was not refused. Especially songs like ‘Wir sind allein’, ‘Von Anfang an’ (the newest single) and the well-known ‘Rapunzel’ were accompanied by loudly singing fans. Like the years before, the band used the encore song ‘Rapunzel’ to add one of their famous cover songs. This time, ‘Seven Nation Army’ by THE WHITE STRIPES made it into their program which proofed to be a right choice, judging from the audience’s reaction.

The band ended with ‘Sandmann’, giving not only a little preview of the next concerts but also of their 15th anniversary, which will be celebrated in October 2013 with a special evening featuring Eric Fish and Frau Schmitt of SUBWAY TO SALLY, Ally Storch of HAGGARD and many more. Be sure to be in Dresden to celebrate!
