Kiuas & myGRAIN

KIUAS, a heavy metal Finnish band, on stage since 2000, decided to disband after 13 years of being together. The final show was put up in Nosturi, a big club in Helsinki, and was sold out.

myGRAIN

The first act was another good collective, MYGRAIN, a strong local band. The band dates back to 2004, has four CDs behind them (latest, ‘Planetary Breathing’, released this year), and features their own, distinct sound based on growling vocals, melodic death style and some keyboard parts. While not taking large stages, they are certainly going strong and very recommended for a melodic death fan. http://www.mygrain1.com / https://www.facebook.com/MyGrain

Music & Performance
Thanks to very energetic frontman Tuomas 'Tommy' Tuovinen and hair-gifted guitarists this looks like a good traditional metal show to you - lots of good screaming, lots of head banging and such. There would be wrong to call this band a warm-up, as these two bands belong to same league. Accordingly, MYGRAIN gave a full hour of performance, with all proper attributes - rough sound and circular mosh pit. However at least in the place where I have been, I could not really hear mix fair enough. Maybe just a wrong place, or maybe the sound check was done for KIUAS alone. Therefore sound was not so great, just enough for mosh pit teenagers. The presentation of songs was also done in some overdriven, party-like way, as opposed to polished album track.

Kiuas

KIUAS is a power-heavy-metal band and the name translated as "sauna stove". They also got four albums, latest dated back in 2010. First vocalist Ilja, a Russian-born Finn, was replaced by Asim Searah in 2011-2012, and in the end the band apparently was relying on the guitarist Mikko Salovaara for singing part. http://www.kiuas.net/kolmas/ / https://www.facebook.com/kiuasofficial

Music & Performance
To end up their career, band put up probably best show to date, featuring their old members, video recording, whole lot of pyrotechnics and the long list of songs. The gig was obviously packed with fans, some of them came even from Moscow to see a farewell gig. Needless to say there was a best possible atmosphere for such a gig. Ilja stepped in for the most part of songs, and he was doing awesome. As with many other bands, there is no doubt that the band members will continue in other formations.
