Mustasch and Daily Thompson

Again it`s time to pay a visit to the good old Turock in Essen, the support is not known until now but most of the visitors don’t care because MUSTASCH is reason enough to be excited about. For everyone that already knows the band’s recent masterpiece ‘Thank you for the Demon’ this was an opportunity to party hard on par with the band. The familiar atmosphere at the Turock was a great help for the first show of MUSTASCH’s current tour.

Daily Thompson

This Stoner rock outfit was formed in 2012 by Danny, Mephi and Dan. DAILY THOMPSON plays a crossbreed of Stoner Rock, doom and elements of grunge and alternative rock. The band is very fond of the WahWah effect and uses it quite frequently. DAILY THOMPSON is Danny Zaremba (guitar / vocals), Mercedes Lalakakis (bass / backing vocals) and Daniel Simon (drums / cymbals). http://dailythompson.believeband.com/ / https://www.facebook.com/dailythompson.band

Music & Performance
DAILY THOMPSON play a convincing set of very old school sounding fuzzy stoned rock; you can literally smell the pot dripping out of the bands speakers. The first song, ‘Moonrising’, sounds like a BLACK SABBATH homage and is received as such. The set itself is well played and well accepted by the majority of the crowd (some people can`t handle stoner rock). The microphone of Mercedes Lalakakis is not audible at all so I miss the opportunity to hear her singing voice (the sight of a bass playing attractive lady is priceless) and have to watch DAILY THOMPSON again someday. All in all stoner rock is not my favourite genre but I can enjoy it.

Mustasch

The headliner of this Friday is this fine band from Sweden. Formed by Ralf Gyllenhammar, Hannes Hansson, Mats Hansson and Mats Johansson in the year 1998 the band played sold-out tours with bands like GLUECIFER and ROSE TATTOO. MUSTASCH play a hybrid of punk rock and heavy metal. The bands musical approach is often up tempo and powerful (thanks to Ralf Gyllenhammar’s extraordinary voice) the band is now on tour promoting their latest output ‘Thank you for the Demon’, released in January 2014. MUSTASCH is Ralf Gyllenhammar (vocals), David Johannesson (lead guitar), Stam Johansson (bass) and Jejo Perkovic (drums). http://www.mustasch.net / https://www.facebook.com/Mustaschofficial

Music & Performance
Right from the start MUSTASCH show the ropes to many other bands in the genre. The band plays with unrelenting energy, fierce and savage like there is no tomorrow. The sound is very good and Gyllenhammar’s voice gets more and more convincing from song to song (he still reminds me of Ian Astbury from THE CULT when hitting the higher notes). Musically there is nothing to bitch about, the guitars, bass and drums form a nice rock and roll construct (like the instruments form a stage for Gyllenhammar’s voice). My personal favourites were ‘Black City’, ‘Bring me Everyone’, ‘I hate to Dance’ and ‘Thank you for the Demon’. If you read this listen to those songs over YouTube and buy the latest record of MUSTASCH.
