Kasabian & Pulled Apart by Horses

Already during some summer festivals you could check out the live atmosphere of the new KASABIAN songs. Now, the guys from Leicester will present their new album ’48:13’ live on German stages. The show in Cologne was originally scheduled for the bigger Palladium but changed to the E-Werk, which turned to be packed and nearly sold-out at the end. As support, fellow countrymen PULLED APART BY HORSES warmed up the audience.

Pulled Apart by Horses

The alternative rock band from Leeds was founded in 2007 and released its self-titled debut album in 2010. After the band’s first live appearances in 2008, the fan crowd grew fast. The debut single ‘Meat Balloon’ was out in October 2008, followed by a second single in 2009. After their debut album, the band was invited by MUSE to accompany them on their UK tour. A second album, ‘Tough Love’, followed in January 2012. September 2014 saw the band’s third studio album, ‘Blood’, being released, entering Top 40 of British charts. And now, the band is promoting this album during their support tour for KASABIAN. PULLED APART BY HORSES is Thomas Hudsons (vocals, guitar), James Browns (guitar), Lee Vincents (drums) and Rob Lee (bass). http://pulledapartbyhorses.com / https://www.facebook.com/pulledapartbyhorses

Music & Performance
It was fifteen minutes past eight when the four British men entered the stage. The quartet perfectly warmed the crowd up, presenting of course several songs from their new album, but also i.e. ‘High Five, Swan Dive, Nose Dive‘ from their self-titled debut album. The show of the band is wild and there are shows it is said that the musicians even hurt themselves. Well, this did not happen during their Cologne set, but the performance was still extroverted and full of energy. With their Post-Hardcore they found a lot of fans within the audience. It was loud, it was wild and it was the perfect start of the evening.

Kasabian

Their story is a classic Rock’n’Roll story. In 1997, three schoolmates from around Leicester, named Tom Meighan (vocals), Sergio Pizzorno (guitar, vocals) and Chris Edwards (bass) from a band called SARACUSE. Eventually, guitarist Christopher Karloff would become a member of the group who initiated the change of the band’s name to KASABIAN, which was the name of the getaway car of mass murderer Charles Manson. After two critically-acclaimed albums with ‘Kasabian’ (2004) and ‘Empire’ (2006), as well as personnel changes and a creative break, the band returns with their third full-length ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’ supported by a same-titled tour. 2009 presented the album ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’, followed by ‘Velociraptor!’. The newest record is ‘48:13’, released in June 2014. KASABIAN already supported such big bands as ROLLING STONES, MUSE or U2. KASABIAN today consists of Tom Meighan (vocals), Sergio Pizzorno (guitar, vocals), Chris Edwards (bass) and Ian Matthews (drums). Live on stage, the band is supported by Ben Kealey on keyboard, Gary Alesbrook on trumpet and Tim Carter on guitar. http://www.kasabian.co.uk / https://www.facebook.com/kasabian

Music & Performance
It was 20:15 when the main act of the evening entered the stage along to the intro ‘Stevie‘ from the current album. From the first sounds, the audience went mad and screamed loudly. The opener of the current album, ‘Bumblebeee’, followed. Right afterwards, fans were rewarded with some older gems, like ‘Shoot the Runner’ from the 2006 album ‘Empire’, and ‘Underdog’ with its shimmering synth layers. The crowd was in dancing and jumping mood and it seemed that no one really was standing still. More and more hits followed, like ‘Where did all the Love go?’ or ‘Club Foot’. Anything was accompanied with a fantastic and energetic light show. Yes, that’s how I expect such a show to be underlined! For example, ‘treat’ was culminating in kind of 80s Rave with never-ending Laser show. With ‘Bow’ from the new album, we sailed in calmer waters, accompanied by Pizzorno on acoustic guitar, and leading soon to the psychedelic ‘Neon Noon’. The main set found its climax in ‘Fire’, underlined with lots of “fucking” thank you.

The band returned after a short break with four more songs, being started with ‘Stevie’ and ‘Vlad the Impaler’. Of course, also the FATBOY SLIM cover ‘Praise You’ was included. The perfect final was given with ‘L.S.F. (Lost Souls Forever)’. Euphoric fans left the venue afterwards and sometimes I still wonder why KASABIAN is not as successful as OASIS or BLUR were once. Still, perfect show!
