Ladytron
On Wednesday, 15th October we went to Cologne to enjoy the last German show of LADYTRON, a band formed in the summer of 1999 when Liverpool musicians and DJs Reuben Wu and Daniel Hunt met dual singers Glaswegian Helen Marnie and Bulgarian born Mira Aroyo. The name of the band was taken from the song of the same name by Roxy Music. Their debut album ‘604’ was released in 2001. The single ‘Playgirl’ brought some national and international attention to the band. The band finished work on their fourth studio album ‘Velocifero’ in February 2008, it had a full release worldwide on June 3. LADYTRON are Helen Marnie, Daniel Hunt, Mira Aroyo and Reuben Wu. Music & Performance
The show was announced for 8pm but at 8pm only the doors were opened. After a long waiting time, at 10 past 10 LADYTRON entered the stage and began their show. The venue was well-filled meanwhile and the temperature in the venue was high. The front of the stage was dominated by the both beautiful female band members who played keyboards and sang the songs alternated or together, in the background were arranged further keyboards, a guitar, a bass and a drum set. The band did a dedicated performance; the setlist consisted of 16 songs mostly taken from the current album mixed with older songs. Unfortunately the sound was bad - really bad; the drums were much too loud, the vocals too low and overloaded with effects - sometimes I had even problems to detect the song.
The lightshow was poor too and mostly the band members were hidden in the dark on stage. After only 60 minutes the band left the stage, an encore was given with three more songs and after about 70 minutes the show was finished. What a shame! The bad sound mixing and the poor lightshow had wrecked the concert! Disappointed we went back to home.
