Nightwish and Tristania
Outside it was frosty and inside there were fire & water. That´s how you could describe the “Nightwish” show in Trier. About 4700 people were running to the “Arena” to see “Tristania” & “Nightwish” this night. The venue was full with fans waiting for the show.
I have to confess, that I never have seen any Nightwish show and I was dying to see them live.
Tristania
As support act, “Tristania” presented their new album “ashes”. I was eager to see a great show and to hear the different voices from Vibeke Stene & Kjetil Ingebrethsen.
Music
They started with songs from their new album “ashes”. They played a good set but they had to fight with a sound that was not as good as it could be. Vibeke´s voice was really good and clear! The sound was dark and powerful, underlined by a really dark and mystic light. Unfortunately I don’t like the voice of Kjetil, but the voice of Vibeke could do it well again. Altogether a very good beginning of the evening
Performance
Most of the male visitors were impressed by the aura and performance of Vibeke. Her outfit, mimic and voice were very charming. But Vibeke is not the only voice of the band. She was supported by the voices of here two male colleagues and a tough amount of the sound from guitar, bass and drums. The sound of “Tristania” was convincing and prepared 4700 visitors for the appearance of Nightwish.

Nightwish
The audience applauded out loud when the banner of the “Once” tour was unveiled. The lights were dimmed and the intro opened a great show of Nightwish. It was to feel that they had fun and the audience was infected by their enthusiasm. The audience cheered for “Nightwish”.

The sound was extremely powerful and clean supported of a gigantic lightshow with a lot of pyrotechnics and water. The evening started with “Dark Chest of Wonders” a fast and hard lead-in that should show the direction for the evening. After this, they performed “Planet Hell” not less powerful and good. All in all, they played almost the fast and hard songs with a few exceptions: one of this was performed by Tarja alone. Tarja´s voice was really clear and powerfully in this venue while the drums were sounding dry with a very good base. The other sounds, like the guitar lines and the bass line, were really good too.

The show was full with energy as well as the music. Tarja changed here clothes three times, each time into a different red colour. Marco and Emmpu raced on stage from one side to the other, laughed and had fun and inspired the audience. Tuomas was head banging behind his keyboards while Jukka drummed like a madman. This all was provided with a fantastic lightshow, a lot of fog, permanent changing lights and walls of water on which the lightshow was projected. The interaction of the band was simply perfect and impressed the audience on the whole line. I think, everybody left the hall with a big and satisfied smile on his face after the last encore! One of the highlights was the “Pink Floyd” cover version that was performed by the band without Tarja. She took advantage to change here clothes and to relax. After the last encore “Wish I Had an Angel”, the happy but completely exhaust band leaved an enthusiastic audience. All in all a great evening!

This venue is relative new and situated only a few minutes away from freeway. It´s about 12000m² and offers room for about 7500 people standing. It’s divided in the main hall and a bar area where you can sit, relax, eat and drink something. A lot of parking places directly by the venue are also good and you have short ways to your cars.

You can buy some drinks and something to eat in different smaller bars scattered in the whole venue. You can also go to the "Laola" bar which is outside the venue.

The stage is as big as you need it because it´s of variable size in width while it is about 10m deep. Because of the big main area and the rankings above, you can listen and see from every place.
