Baroeg, Rotterdam, the Netherlands
April 6th 2006
Macabre, Jungle Rot, Xenomorph, Deface

Half an hour before the evening starts: The bar is quiet filled with public, but also many band members visiting their merchandise stand and talking with the audience. While looking around a bit I noticed Macabre, the headliner of this evening, brought the most fans to the venue. The merchandise goes quiet fast. In only a few minutes I see Macabre T-shirts all around me. It impressed me. The people around me seem to have good faith in this band.

Deface

The band is formed in 2001. Since then, there have been many line-up changes. At this moment, the band is working on a full length album, which will be released in August 2006

Music
Although the music of this band is pretty good, not many people are interested in them. Only two or three of them were showing some support to the band. Probably they were some relatives to the band. After they finished playing, one of their fans dares to scream for more. They did not respond which is a wise decision.

Performance
Besides the usual movements, there was not much special to see. The band seems to be a bit static and not in the mood to look around the stage. While half of the crowd decided they could drink another beer before the real shit started, the band tries to make the public a bit wilder. Screaming, showing the finger and some more head banging. Too bad, none of these seems to work out very well. After they announced their last song I heard some slightly sights by the people in front of me. Then, their performance is over.

Xenomorph

Xenomorph is a band, which is inspired by the extreme black-, death- and trash metal cult from the early eighties and nineties. They name Xenomorph stands for complete darkness.

Music
The first songs Xenomorph plays, did not make a huge impression to the crowd. After only two songs a few people walk back to the bar to gain another beer. The band doesn’t bother. They are playing like it is some routine thing which just has to be done and how sooner it ends, how more spare time they have. Only the bassist seems to have fun in playing today. After a few more songs more and more people leaving them for what they are. Actually the band finally seems to notice that this public is not that easy to impress, and they turned up the enthusiasm. That results in much better music and at the end of the set list, people return from bar and noticed this band actually is better then they showed in the start.

Performance
When the band entered the stage, there is not much interaction with the audience. With an except for the bassist, the band seems to be very arrogant. They probably thought they audience would love them anyway, but it turned out bad. The vocalist just stares over the crowd like they are not there. During the concert he noticed the public was not amused and then he changed his way of performing a bit.

Jungle Rot

With styles being similar to Slayer and Sodom, Jungle Rot seems to be a bit different of other bands. Their songs are usually a bit more catchy songs, which stick in mind longer then you expected.

Music
Jungle Rot starts very well. Many people are interested in them and almost immediately after the first seconds, people enjoying listing. Even the Macabre fans which stayed in the darkest corner of the venue during the first two bands stands up to have a curiously look on them. Jungle Rot seems to interest people. With a very enthusiast drummer, the band sets a great show with music which makes me want to hear more. But then after many pretty good songs, the show is already over. Too bad, cause this is the first band during this evening which seems to interest the audience.

Performance
From the first moment of the show till the end, the band gives an enthusiasm impression. They look at the audience and how they react on them. Playing a bit with the public and let them ask for more, they look like they really are interested in what people feel for their music. In the last two songs, the lights where flashy and backs up the performance perfectly.

Macabre

Like the name already mentioned, Macabre makes some sinister music, which is better known under the name of Murder metal. In each song is a story about a serial killer. “Jack the ripper”, “the werewolf of Bedburg”, but also the more recent killers like Fritz Haarman and “the iceman” are the subjects for songs of this macabre band.

Music
As headliner of the evening they made some expectations. From the first moment the band started to play the public went wild with starting some moshpits. Singing along to some songs even before the song has started, makes the band even more fanatic. Drummer “Dennis the menace” drums like it is the last time. The music gives you the idea you are on a camp while walking through the woods or sitting next to a campfire telling each other the most horrible stories, but now in an extreme version. After many songs the band leaves the stage but before they can put down their instruments, the “we want more” sentence is filling the area. After having so many responses from the public during their show they can’t do anything else then coming back for some more killer songs. And so they came back. For just another few minutes the audience gets wild and enjoying themselves.

Performance
There is not really a huge show, but it all fits together and while listing to this band you prefer the listening element more then the show element. You want to know the stories behind the songs and before every song starts you get a few lines of the story. It makes you curious and you want to hear more, but first a few seconds of silence or a short intro and then, finally the music starts and the rest of the story comes. At the end of each song you can feel satisfied, but you are not. You just want to hear more of this addictive band.
