Album Review

Denmark born REPTILE YOUTH shoot the energy levels sky high right into the pulpy veins of the Post Punk, Synth Pop world. Here, the jazzy hooks vigorously invigorate any dance crazed, indie infused fans alike. After their insane live shows, they have geared up quite a following, so, needless to say, this debut album has been vastly anticipated.

The adrenaline really kicks in from the start, ‘Black Swan Born White’ is a quick spark of punchy grooves, the song ‘Dead End’ expresses their moodier electro side whereas ‘Speeddance’ ups the ante with the absurd kinetics of their well-executed sound. They’re no strangers of comedic lyrics either, the song ‘Be My Yoko Ono’ shares their profound imaginary love with the artist and the slow and hazy ‘It’s Easy to Lose Yourself’ provocatively illustrates a certain desire in a girl that is sure to be a memorable moment in the album. Their high-octane blitz of beats would surely fill the dance floor, especially ‘Heart Blood Beat’ that quite possibly inherits an insane speed limit of unadulterated Synth madness.

However, the spectrum of their style doesn’t elevate to much, the palette is somewhat sparse, they are musically strong and dynamic but some tracks fade into the background of the stand out songs leaving you with only a fraction of the soundscape to grasp. Perhaps this is something more to gain from their live shows, their bouncy pop-fest suits the stage more than the homely CD player. REPTILE YOUTH is a record wired up to kick up a sweat and then some although; it only manages to be a warm up for a gig on the night.
