PRIMAL FEAR is a German Power Metal band formed in 1997 by Ralf Scheepers (ex GAMMARAY and TYRAN PACE) and Mat Sinner (SINNER). Sinner and Scheepers met at a gig of the JUDAS PRIEST cover band JUST PRIEST. The newly formed band accomplished the impossible: they recorded one demo and were immediately signed by JVC/Victor Japan. PRIMAL FEAR`s first record was well received by press and the metal community and so they took the next step in their career and got signed by Nuclear Blast Records in 1998. They released five albums with Nuclear Blast until they went to Frontiers Records in 2007. Now in 2014 the unleashed their 10th record named ‘Delivering the Black’.
To call the new material “heavy” is an understatement. The songs are zippy, heavy and laden with melody and great lyrics. The guitar work is not compelling but it fortifies Scheepers’ voice very efficient. The rhythm section is very powerful (sometimes a bit too fast, making some songs very hectic instead of making them more impulsive). All in all, the new album by PRIMAL FEAR is a decent one and a nice experience for every metal head who is into power metal. If you are into JUDAS PRIEST give the song ‘Rebel Faction’ a listen.
