Album Review

TWILIGHT OF THE GODS is a multinational heavy metal band formed in 2010 as a BATHORY tribute project. Alan Averill of PRIMORDIAL fame wanted to play a BATHORY tribute concert with his own band but that idea broke down because as Averill says the band was too lazy to make it work. Because of that he formed this project with friendly musicians. Averill knew that BATHORY`s music was never meant to be played live so he spoke to Quorthon`s relatives about his idea and they were taken with it.

For their first album as TWILIGHT OF THE GODS the band composed their own material to emancipate themselves from just being a tribute band. Thus said I must admit that the bands style reminds me of MANOWAR and GRAND MAGUS, Averill`s voice is a matter of taste (either you love or hate it) but the material is very strong throughout the whole record and I must say I really enjoy listening to it even if I am not too fond of Averill`s voice. The opening song ‘Destiny forged in Blood’ is the first highlight of the record; ‘Sword of Damocles’ is also to be mentioned because Averill shows that he can hit the high notes (which I like). If you like one of the mentioned bands just hit the local record shop and support TWILIGHT OF THE GODS!
