Album Review

What shall I say about TOO DEAD TO DIE and the debut album ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’? To cut a long story short: it’s the best album I listened to since GOLDFRAPP released ‘Supernature’ in 2005. For those who have never heard of TOO DEAD TO DIE: This music project was founded by Andy Xx, a young and smart Russian, who studied engineering. But as it seems not all engineering students are calm and study all day long. Andy proofs that there is quite a lot of energy and creativity stuck inside him and which has to be used to make electronic music. To those who expect a synth-pop album because the young man on the cover looks like he is from this kind of genre: I really have to disappoint you. TOO DEAD DIE is nothing like this. And if you read Out of Line and do now think “Oh well, just another SUICIDE COMMANDO and HOCICO-like album” and refuse listening to ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ just because of this thought, you’ll be really missing a fresh, new band.

I’ve seen Andy Xx alias TOO DEAD TO DIE playing at Out of Line Weekender in 2013 and I thought he looked a bit lost on stage, though his music was really good and interesting. This impression changed when I started listening to ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’. The first 15 seconds of the song ‘Another Sin’ changed my mood from bored and a bit upset (caused by being stuck in the library since days to finish my Essay) to “I would like to dance now!”. With his synth elements, a bit of techno and a mixture of industrial and aggro-tech elements, TOO DEAD TO DIE create an album full of songs to dance to. I can also recommend the whole album to cheer yourself up, when you feel down. Andy Xx is creating such a positive atmosphere by using synthesizer sounds and quite interesting melodies with catchy choruses that at least you can’t do nothing more but feel happy and dance.

For those who like to listen to two or three tracks before ordering, I recommend you ‘ #LOUD’. Turn on this track if you have problems to get out of bed in the morning and you’ll definitely will get up. Feeling good comes automatically then. I know what I’m talking about as I have problems to get out of bed every single morning. To all the DJs out there, you should really put ‘Pop Crush’ on your tracklist. This track includes dancy beats and shouts, and of course a  few icon-of-coil-like moments which will not only make your younger audience dance but also the picky mid-thirties on the dance-floor. Last recommendation is ‘Overdose’. If you’re searching for track to listen to in your car to make you relax and enjoy driving a bit more on a long trip, just listen to this song. It’ll definitely make you enjoy your trip a more.
