Album Review

'Pride' is the result of REA GARVEY retreating from his work for the television, most prominently the casting show THE VOICE OF GERMANY and solely focusing on making music. The album starts with the purely acoustic 'It's A Good Life', a very simple composition stripping back to the core elements. So yeah, the contrast to 'Can't Say No' couldn't be bigger, which is clearly aiming for bigger arenas and stadiums where the chorus is overpowering everything else. The album retains a very organic feel all the way through the end. Here you have a little more verve, there you keep it out of the track again, so ballads and upbeat stuff go hand in hand. On 'All That Matters', Garvey enlists the vocal services of HEATHER NOVA resulting in quite a listenable duet. But is that nearly enough to make it an album to be remembered. I'm afraid not. Those are solid songs nonetheless, but I guess I'm not the only one thinking that Garvey can do better than producing some tracks good to listen to on the side... if he wants to, that is.
