SERIOUS BLACK is a new Power Metal super group. In this band we meet Urban Breed (ex-TAD MOROSE, ex-TRAIL BY MURDER), Roland Grapow (MASTERPLAN, ex-HELLOWEEN) who has left after the release of the album and replaced by Bob Katsionis (FIREWIND, OUTLOUD), Thomen Stauch (ex-BLIND GUARDIAN), Mario Lochert (ex-VISIONS OF ATLANTIS), Dominik Sebastian (EDENBRIDGE) and Jan Vacik (ex-DREAMSCAPE). The album contains 11 tracks of perfect played Melodic Power Metal with Classic and Progressive Metal elements.
All the songs of the album are very good but if I have to choose the best songs I would choose the TAD MOROSE sounding 'Akhenaton', the powerful 'Setting Fire to the Earth', the mid tempo 'I Seek No Other Life' and the heavy rock 'Setting fire to the earth'. The production of the album is very good, it highlights guitars and keyboards but I think the sound of the drums should be a little bit clearer.
About Urban's voice I cannot say much, the guy is for one more time perfect! In my opinion he is one of the best voices in metal and I hope with this band to gain the recognition he deserves. If you are fan of bands like HELLOWEEN, MASTERPLAN, STRATOVARIUS, HAMMERFALL and AVANTASIA you must not miss this album, but even if you are not big fan of the bands I mentioned but you want to listen quality metal you must check 'As Daylight Breaks'.
