Hard to believe how time flies by. SICK OF IT ALL have been around since 1986 and New York Hardcore wouldn't be what it is without them. Brothers Lou and Pete Koller (vocals, guitar), Armand Majidi (drums) and Craig Setari (bass) are the band's current line-up. Lou Koller also performed vocal duties in the band BLOOD FROM THE SOUL, which was an Industrial Metal side-project of NAPALM DEATH's Shane Embury. ‘Based On A True Story’ is the follow-up to ‘Death to Tyrants’, which appeared way back on Abacus Records (Century Media sub label) in 2006. Four years is quite a long time for a band to not release an album, but being a hardcore legend in their own right SOIA were anything but forgotten.

And a good album it is. Right up front, in yer face, honest to god SOIA. Stuff to jump around to in a mosh pit and see how long you can last slamming into your peers. Actually, that's the best description for ‘Based On A True Story’ - something slamming you in your face, blunt force trauma with a baseball bat. And you like it because it also has a nice melody now and then to balance the aggression. SOIA have lost nothing of their bite and punch - they rather seem to have added more of those two things. Personal highpoints include ‘Bent Outta Shape’ which is introduced by instrumental intermezzo ‘Braveheart’. And it just doesn't stop there, ‘Lowest Common Denominator’, one of the fastest tracks on the album, is a relentless assault in terms of SOIA, certain to be a hit in the pit. Production is raw and has a certain live feeling to it, supporting the band's overall sound. If you're a fan of NYHC, this one is a must-have. What else is there to say?
