Album Review

Amongst the many things this surprising good three piece outfit has going for them is a tremendous lead singer, a sense of flair in their arrangements and a more solid than solid bass and drum combination which gives everyone else the chance to really shine in their own individual fields. This is Darkwave and Symphonica at it's best, make no mistake. The first track on this impressive EP is the title 'Geister und Daemonen' a wickedly catchy track that's as hard as hell with a chorus that you'll be anthemic roaring. Second up with a hauntingly eerie and disjointed arrangement is 'Tanzende Schatten' with added effective soprano vocals and a great and unexpected mid point change of flavour style and tempo with killer drumming. Awesome.

'Blutrote Symphonie' is another excellent ambassador for this band, demonstrating that they are not stuck for ideas in terms of arrangement or style. It's hard driven, exciting to listen to and very well balanced, making it a really nice track. The Mantus Remix of 'Geister und Daemonen' is next bringing a very different flavour to the track, no less impressive but far more complex and restrained. It's fairly brave to include a remix on an EP, because all too often they are boring and samey, but this really pulls it off beautifully and is a worthy addition. I'm beginning to wish this was a full length album as I'm disappointed that the chiming 'Mitternacht' is the last track. Like the rest, it's excellently executed with a precision and passion that makes me want to hear a whole lot more of this band.

As an EP it's totally recommended, especially if you find RAMMSTEIN and OOMPH! in your CD collections, and it's a fabulous advert for their full length CD- so go and buy it!
