Album Review

For a moment let us enter into an above the average pagan’s mind. “Sun... good... food, moon... good... sleep, tree... good... wee” and let us apply these profound and complicated thoughts into the homonymous band from Norway. It worked in QUEENSRŸCHE? Good. It worked in DREAM THEATER? Good. It worked in million other bands of progressive metal? Good. And so they’ve created this patchwork, a hardly original one with predictable bridges between the sugary solos and where everything is a constant reminder of something else. Maybe they’ve tried to apply criteria of song catchiness but most of the times they fail, as they deliver a Eurovision version of Progressive.

Apparently they can’t get out from the pit of their previous album, ‘God’s Equation’, so they decided to make this rather spasmodic move and release this one. Here and there one can find sympathetic solos and intros but the overall feeling is one of tiredness. You may wonder which is the best moment of the album? Undoubtedly it’s ‘Operation Mindcrime’. Such a pity that this moment can be found only in QUEENSRŸCHE’s utterly brilliant album! And how one should forget to mention the overall fascinating influence of the profound thinker Erich von Däniken on the lyrics of the band over the years? If one is not aware of him I wish to remind that he believes that aliens had their sandwiches some thousands years ago on Earth and they helped our primitive relatives to discover the nutritious ingredients of salami under the shadows of the pyramids which they [the aliens] have constructed as a five stars intergalactic spa resort with affordable prices. Or something like that.

And as if that is not enough they have added lyrics full of mysticism promising that they will blow our heads off! They have achieved their goal... I’m a headless reviewer. Such a pity the thumb sucking is not an Olympic Games event. They could have won the gold medal with a world record... The only thing that is saved here is the quality of the production over the sweetish and boring songs of the band. To return to that pagan’s mind “CD shines...good, moon shines...sleep, CD...good sleep”.
