Every now and then, a band crosses your paths and you´re quite confident that their release has to be their debut, because you´ve never heard of them. In fact, STONELAKE can be considered as such a band. Although ‘Marching On Timeless Tales’ is their 5th album, the band never reached a remarkable success beyond Sweden. The new release is the one that changes everything, according to the label Massacre Records for STONELAKE´s “fifth outcome ‘Marching on timeless tales’ promises to be the most powerful and matured album by the ambitious Swedes and a must-have for all fans of high-quality hard rock and melodic metal from Scandinavia”.
Unfortunately, I cannot share these effusive eulogies. ‘Marching On Timeless Tales’ in my eyes is not that innovative release as it´s meant to be. Except to ‘Liar’ which is the only one that pushes forward the drive of this release, all other songs are mid tempo-songs. Although there´s plenty of variety in the miscellaneous styles of Hardrock and Melodic Metal, the structures of the songs are too predictable… Don´t get me wrong, all the songs are quite solid, but the whole release is lacking of THE spark to start the fire within me - honestly, there´s no song I´d keep mind. STONELAKE fails to get the next level beyond mediocrity to high class performance according to the fact, that these guys are not those raw beginners in business.
