St13Backstage Werk, Munich, Germany
11th October 2014
Stahlmann, Mundtot & Herzig

A typical autumn day in Munich was the day when STAHLMANN were visiting the Bavarian capital. And in front of the Backstage a long queue romped about what was to assume from the probably quite special concert.

Herzig

HERZIG alias LIEBLINGSKIND is a German Indie-Rock band which came out from the project FREISCHWINGER. Three Berliners - singer and guitarist Frank, bassist Boris and drummer Jan - stood already on stage with bands as for example REVOLVERHELD, STANFOUR or also JENNIFER ROSTOCK. http://www.herzigwillkommen.de

Music & Performance
Already before the beginning there was a pleasing surprise: The concert was moved from the smaller Halle in the bigger Werk. Then at 20:00 it was time and the first band of the evening entered stage. The three Berlin guys from HERZIG tried from the start to win the, by now big, crowd for themselves. Mood and music were fairly good, the sound, unfortunately, not at all. Also the photographers were given a hard time since there was nearly total absence of light. And the heat in the Werk did the rest. Despite of all HERZIG was dismissed with astonishing applause after half an hour.

Mundtot

The Indie/ Alternative band MUNDTOT from Munich (Bavaria/ Germany) was founded only in 2009 as an electronics project. In 2012 their first album 'Spätsommer' was published; now this year in April followed the second album 'Schatten'. During their short history they appeared already in 2013 among other things on the Dark Munich Festival, the Karlsruher Gothic Treffen and toured together with some big bands. http://www.mundtot.net

Then after only 10 minutes of rebuilding break it was time for the personified pineapple (of you look at the band’s logo) and the appearance of MUNDTOT. Although the sound was a little better than with HERZIG, it did not sound particularly good still. The music was excessively loud. Hence, it also did not surprise that the fans were only moderately enthusiastic during the home match of the Munich band. Also the photographers still had to fight with the missing light. The mood in the audience did not want to reach top level. Now after 45 minutes, they left stage also under adequate applause and the way was free for the headliner of the evening.

Already with their debut EP 'Herzschlag' (2009) they reached place 20 of the German Alternative Charts. Last year they released their 3rd album 'Adamant' which reached place 34 of German charts. http://www.stahlmann.tv

Then, finally, shortly after 21:30, the waiting had an end. It was getting dark; only some sombre accessories of the set were illuminated in blazing red. Singer Martin Soer, guitarist Neill Freiwald, bassist AblaZ and drummer Niklas Kahl conquered the stage and at the same time also the fans for themselves. Although the light was also not really convincing, it looked fascinating during the STAHLMANN show thanks to the metallic spray colour. The sound was finally better than with the support bands. Although just very loud! The piercing voice of Mart might probably have reached also the very back little corner of the Backstage. The mood was excellent from the beginning. Fans and also band were in a good mood and people joined in the singing, banged their heads and danced. A nice intermezzo was the little birthday song for singer Mart, who was obviously glad about it! The audience was integrated into the show during the whole performance very well.

Suitably to the song 'Schwarz' there were again black streamers. Then, unfortunately, after just two hours of perfect show and some additions, everything came to an end. Finally STAHLMANN left under blustering applause and left a very glad audience. After both not so strong support bands, the evening with STAHLMANN reached a superlative climax. If the likeable boys will come again once more to Munich - with pleasure!
