Tanzwut

On a day of heavy snowfall and transportation troubles a small crowd managed to find their way to the Patronaat, even all the way from England and Germany, to see a magnificent performance of Tanzwut. While it was freezing outside, inside people were dancing, laughing and singing.

Tanzwut

The stage for this evening seemed a bit small to hold the entire band, it was about 9 meters wide and 4 meters deep and already half full with instruments but they managed just fine.

Music
Some songs have a very clear dance beat to accompany them but others seem to date from ancient times, using instruments such as flutes and bag pipes. A song such as Götterfunken is off course based on a piece of great classical music (Beethoven) but Tanzwut really knows how to make something old in to something new and exiting. In their music there is something for everybody, you can bang your had, move your feet or just jump around. Tanzwut seems to be able to handle many kinds of music; dance, medieval, classical, metal, they have many talents and mix them all together in their music.

Performance
Suddenly there was smoke…. dark laughter…. strobe lights, the Tanzwut performance had begun. After this introduction the 7 men came on stage accompanied by a loud applause. During their performance the band members always make eye contact with the audience, while doing so they ask them to sing along, clap and shout. When someone wanted to make a picture they were happy to pose or make faces. Tanzwut always has great contact with their audience. All of this contributed to a great atmosphere. When Hatz brings on the old pick up and puts on a record (after wiping it clean on his leather sleeve) it is time for the black light part of the show. When these lamps are on, all over the stage and on the band members them selves orange accents light up. Two of the guitarists put on a big hat, also with black light accents and little red lights which look like eyes transforming them into some sort of weird monster playing guitar. During ‘Gigolo’ Teufel (vocals) appointed Patrick and Wim as being a gigolo when he did they were put in a spotlight, during the song even Castus admitted to being a gigolo. My guess is that some of the women (or maybe even men) in the audience would have been happy to take advantage of their services.
Most of the audience was a bit quiet but in the front everybody was dancing singing and jumping around. The band was very enthusiastic and the audience couldn’t get enough, shouting for more and thus receiving two encores. Both audience and band seemed to have a great evening.
