Founded in 1987, the project is considered one of the forerunners in the dark electro genre. Inspired by such icons like Throbbing Gristle, Skinny Puppy, they created a sound which isn’t easy to categorize and now the project itself serves as influence for many artists in that genre.

Biography (As published on http://www.yelworc.de/)

1987 Peter Devin and Dominik van Reich founded the Electro band livE of yelworC. 2 tapes were published in 1988: RISING AS PHOENIX FROM ITS ASHES and The MYSTER SIDE OF DEMOCRACY

In 1988, the name was changed to just yelworC. The band name includes the idea of an anagram inspired by the mysterious SATOR formula. Thematically yelworC were inspired by the occult scene and particularly by Aleister Crowley’s anti-Christ subjects. Aleister Crowley (1875-1947), magician, philosopher, adventurer and burgher’s scare had an influence on yelworC’s experimental forms of expression in musical as well as formal regards (photo, video, graphics). Inspired by bands like Test Department, Chrome, Hunting Lodge, Skinny Puppy, Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, Coil, Christian Death and Bauhaus, yelworC was looking for different ways to express themselves.

1989-1992 yelworC produced a number of further tapes: FLASH, WARDS & INCUBATION / DISCOVER & CONTROL / A.I.W.A.S.S. / $ATANAT / TANATA$. The Debut album BRAINSTORMING was released 1992 by the newly founded Label Celtic Circle Productions. Classic and experimental sound structures were interwoven, and typical EBM arrangements with dark soundscapes, harsh rhythms and distorted vocals established a unique Dark Electro synthesis. The main emphases were still the magical mystical elements and the approaches of Crowley’s controversial work, critical of society. The books of this "Master of 1000 masks" are combinations of the magical knowledge from several cultures with obscure and unconventional puns, symbols and paradoxes.

His texts are presumptuous, provoking and frequently without any logic and reason. His maxime "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law" questioned the Christian moral ideas, in principle. The "true will" of the individual is in his vision against the lying will of a morally oriented, hierarchical society. MCD BLOOD IN FACE was published in 1993/94. Continuing the dark electronic style, yelworC confirmed with this production their status of a forerunner. The album thematically circulated around the uncovering of social paradoxes. The inconsistency between the voyeurish desire for people’s sensation for the "negative", "terrible" and "bloodthirsty" aspects of our world and the social claim of "healthy" morals. The more vehemently the society succeeds with her claim to the general obligation of her codex, the more cruelly the interhuman structure develops. (The beast in man!)

Between 1990 and 1994 yelworC took part in some European festivals. Due to personal discrepancies Dominik van Reich left the band, in 1994.

1995 appears the Double CD COLLECTION 1988-1994 still on Celtic Circle Productions, after that yelworC left the label. This double album contains remixes, different compilation songs, live material from concerts and last not least tracks from the old tape productions. In 1994 Peter Devin started the work on the new yelworC-album TRINITY. Already 1995 and 1996 yelworC introduced some Trinity-songs beside the usual yelworC repertory, on different live-gigs together with guest musicians. The album TRINITY took (inevitably) almost 10 years to be published. TRINITY is the first part of a trilogy concept, inspired by "Dante’s Divine Comedy", a journey through the opposite worlds of the hell, the purgatory and the paradise. YelworC transforms Dante’s visions into an up-to-date topic and seasons the hellish trip with typical yelworC antagonisms.

The work on this album was also a hellish trip for yelworC: The attempts to build up the label of one’s own, Baal Records, failed because of various economic circumstances of the music industry. All the problems delayed the release, however couldn’t harm the musical perfection. The album TRINITY could finally be published as a cooperation of Minuswelt Musikfabrik and Baal Records in February 2004. Dennis Ostermann (In Strict Confidence) as additional vocals on one track. The well-known graphic artist Ingo Römling contributed the effortful artwork. In this year 2007, after 3 years studio work, yelworC reposts back with 2 productions at once. The 44-minute 9-Track EP ECLOSION is available since July 13th. The long player ICOLATION is out in October 19th. Thematically both productions tie to Dante’s hell journey (Trinity) and lead out of the hell straight into an also apocalyptic purgatory. Musically in common loss of compromise it’s a synthesis of rough but also vigorous rhythm and dark melodies.

ECLOSION leads into a cryptic no man's land between hell and purgatory where strange winged natures do their mischief, and the violent hellish trip of "Trinity" flares up again, however abruptly leads into ravines being full ice. Also an unknown female voice was added to some tracks. The artwork was formed by the famous Viennese artist Joachim Luetke. The 78-minute long player ICOLATION is the conceptual continuation of the infernal "Trinity- journey" combining hot sins and cold fever, harsh rhythms and bittersweet melodic pattern. It’s the pulse of anger, the panting will to survive and a symphony of a mankind in the purgatory. While the "Trinity hell" is established in the mysticism, the demonic nature and the darkness, the purgatory of the ICOLATION is more concrete: It’s the inner conflict of the individual with itself and the purgatory between the people with each other. On 3 tracks yelworC is supported by Connie’s vocals again. Also here again artworks from Joachim Luetke. "Essence awake!"
