Album Review

ZAVOD is a Swedish electro-industrial trio, and ‘Industrial City’ is their debut album, which consists of 11 tracks. Although, most of those are old tunes, that have been re-recorded, the sound quality & production are pretty solid. The album sets off with the powerful industrial-metal blast ‘Panzer’, which directly places ZAVOD somewhere between RAMMSTEIN and Millenium-era FRON LINE ASSEMBLY (not that they get anywhere near their music quality).

Among their most addictive songs are the slow-burners ‘Friends With Death’ & ‘Into The Night’ with the atmospheric soundscapes and big beats. In addition, the self-titled end track is probably the album’ s most interesting song with the last 2-minute ambient twist. The rest of the songs combine harsh vocals with heavy industrial beats, not giving the band the chance to differentiate from the rest of the typical industrial-metal genre. Overall, ‘Industrial City’ is a decent first effort, which proves that if ZAVOD insist more on synthesis, keep their metal identity hidden and experiment more on ambient, might play a significant role in the European industrial scene in near future.
