Album review
The project X-IN JUNE was founded in 2011 by Markus Bär. Before he brought X-IN JUNE into being, Markus already had since 1998 another project, COY IMPACT, and released some albums until he gave it up in 2007. In 2008, he started to work with LOST AREA as singer, songwriter and partly as guitar player and produced with them the albums ‘Man machine’ and ‘Memoria’. With LOST AREA he did several supporting shows for bands like PROJECT PITCHFORK, HUMAN LEAGUE, DIARY OF DREAMS, FUNKER VOGT, KIRLIAN CAMERA, STAUBKIND and they were on tour with PROJECT PITCHFORK. But now with X-IN JUNE he decided to go consequently his own musical way. In 2012 X-IN JUNE was runner-up at the “Battle of the bands” contest of the Sonic Seducer magazine. Since September 2011 Christian Beer joined the band for live performances, as well as professional cameraman for video production and editing. Borislav Schultheiss is yet another band member since this year.
With the title ‘Hall of truth’ the topic of the concept album is defined. Deceit, infatuation and intrigues, things everyone had already experienced or will, are made a subject of discussion. ‘Countdown 21’ refers to the date 2012-12-21 of the Mayan calendar. Although the Mayan didn’t predict the apocalypse, the song describes the end of the world, respectively the new beginning. The first song, the title track, is the opener of this concept album and started quite solemnly before the tempo speeds up. All packed in nice danceable Synth Pop/ Electro sound. The vocals of Markus Bär reminds me partly very much of the voice of Brian Molko (PLACEBO) but not of course the music for the missing guitars and drums. ‘The devil’, ‘Wake up in void’, ‘Night swim’ and ‘Words like blades’ have the potential to be played on the dance floors, probably as remixed versions. ‘What I feel’ is a more slow and contemplative song. ‘The devil’, ‘Sun sea’ and ‘Greed’ are so far my favourite songs of this album, though I find the complete album quite enjoyable. Definitely a successful debut album and thus I can really recommend it.
