VICIOUS RUMORS is a US power metal band that was formed in 1979 by Geoff Thorpe. Thorpe hails from Santa Rosa, California and is the only constant in the 34 years spanning history of the band. Carl Albert is the best known ex-singer in the bands lore he was with the band for seven years and sadly passed away in 1995. The band had to work very hard at first (it took seven years until they recorded their debut ‘Soldiers of the Night’). And the changes in the line-up over 34 years are and will forever be the stuff of legend. The band has 11 studio records up their sleeve and 4 live records. Vocalist Nick Holleman is their 8th singer to date. Aside from all the line-up issues and tragedies the band steadily released many first-class records in their time (let alone ‘Digital Dictator’ a timeless masterpiece).
Now I sit here, again, and remember the VICIOUS RUMORS gig at the Turock in Essen. It was the 25th of September 2011 and I experienced one of the best gigs ever. After the show me and my brother met the band outside and had a long chat with HELSTAR`s James Rivera. We had the pleasure to meet VR`s Brian O`Connor and had a really great night. The fact aside that I chatted with Brian both then and later over Facebook, I still have to admit that the new guy Nick Holleman (‘Don`t wait for me’ is a great example in what he can do with his voice) is a very good fit for the band and has great talent and a fine voice. The longer I listen to this live record the more I want to buy the bands back catalogue… For every fan of US metal this record is a must buy and for VICIOUS RUMORS fans anyway. It`s perfectly played and perfectly sung there is not more to say than: BUY THIS RECORD!!!
