Album Review

Good start for a young British female-fronted band which released the first album two years ago and had a great success in Europe, supporting some well-known formations. There is a tendency in modern music to return to the initial and minimal rock sound, to the classical set of instruments instead of melody-destroying complicated arrangements. As we can see, YOUR ARMY is definitely involved in this process. The set of instruments is minimal and classic: guitar, bass and drums. The singing is far from operatic and doesn’t contain any extreme influences which are typical nowadays even for female voices. Partially it can remind of NO DOUBT vocally and of some Britpop musically. No progressive air, no complex additions in recording. Everything is quite simple and skilful as you can notice on the band’s new creation ‘Sicker Than Us’.

The optimistic songs are more likely to be appreciated by listeners because the ballads sound just a little bit boring. Up to the end of the album one might get tired of the cheer-up singing and a poor musical palette. But still there are no mistakes in producing and we can praise the band for a high quality of performance. The audience can be varied and if you listen to the album in the right mood you may love it. Everything has its time and condition. I suppose that this kind of music is meant mostly for teenagers and emotional girls, however all of us had something to begin with.
