Album review

After two years the waiting was over and ‘The Wolves Go Hunt Their Prey’ was released. Since the songs of The Vision Bleak are never without depth and history, neither are the songs of this new album. The album starts with the bombastic ever swelling sound of ‘Amala and Kamala’. These names may sound familiar. These two girls were found in 1926. They were said to have been raised by wolves. This is a direct link to the second song ‘She-Wolf’. Here another combination of men and wolf is mentioned, the Loup Garoux, the werewolf. A myth that is still very appealing to many.  The song has ongoing drums keeping the speed in it. But in the vocals there are refrains and choruses which make it easier to the ears.

Another nightly creature is mentioned in the next song ‘The Demon of the Mire’, again fast ongoing drums. You can almost hear the fear of the prey in it. After this there is the black Pharaoh Trilogy. Not a complete concept album this time but the 6 final songs and especially those of this trilogy are connected by there theme. The sounds of ancient Egypt have obviously been an inspiration for the sound of these songs. You can hear sitars playing, making this Horror Metal sound more ancient. The Vision Bleak has created their sound but never fails to sound refreshing with each album. They provide metal which can be bombastic, simple, catching and bewitching all in one album. Their album booklet is brilliant, wonderful images and breathtaking texts; definitely worth reading.
