After his success with the single track ‘This is for you’ in this year’s September Swedish singer/producer brings his debut ‘Lucky Thirteen’ referring to VINCENT’s birthday on a 13th May, over to Germany...
Vincent’s kicking things off with trumpet, slow drums and a narrator who’s telling a short story, before the real album starts with ‘Farewell’ rhythm-wise very similar to ‘This is For You’ though different sounds have been used and I like the atmosphere the trumpet spreads. With ‘I Was Young’ it’s getting a little slower and calmer. Vincent’s longing voice is deliberately put into the centre while the other instruments like the acoustic guitar just serve as a small rhythmical and melodic company. ‘In My Head’ has a strong Reggae vibe to it and also here it’s the trumpet and the piano which are giving more depth to the song. What would a pop album be without at least 1 or 2 ballads? ‘P.A.R.A.D.I.S.E’ is one of those tracks, carried by melancholic string arrangements and the piano; this certainly will be one of the tracks that’ll make many girls’ hearts melt away in no time. He stays in his prime discipline of writing catchy pop songs with ‘How To Rob a Bank’, that, like many other tracks on his album too, has melancholic undertones and ‘Walking Crooked’ makes no exception here, but seems to be an homage to the 60s/70s pop sound. You’ll know what I mean when you hear it.
Since the album was released in Sweden last year it has already received gold and I think Germany will follow in that footsteps as ‘Lucky Thirteen’ is a good if not necessarily an overwhelming collection of entertaining pop songs with a good sense for melody.
