Ha, know look who’s coming back with a new album this April. Uncle Rudy Ratzinger aka WUMPSCUT bestowing his fellowship with a new album every year for a long…very long time now! This one carries the title ‘Fuckit’ and starts with the intro ‘Schlechter Mensch’ sampling a press report about the amok run of Finnish Matti Juhani Saari in September 2008 who was a declared fan of Rudy’s music but I guess the point of the sample is the false pronunciation of the project name as VAMPSCOUT. But the first proper track of the album is ‘The Boo’ using a backdrop of drones and noises for the pummelling, metallic beats which are equipped with a few interesting equipped flown over with some sampled strings. Standard at best but at least it doesn’t sound like a cheap demo version as experienced on the last record. No, that award goes definitely to the title track and ‘Achtung Menschen’. The title track is sure to be a club killer and people will love the word ‘Fuckit’ which keeps appearing over and over and dig the one liner chorus of ‘Achtung Menschen’.
Surprisingly appealing tracks are the clubby tune ‘Autophagy Day’ lacing together chilly, distorted beats and cool melodies and the overall atmospheric closer of the album ‘Gulag’ encompassed with frigid layers and slow yet glowering mechanic rhythms. So, what’s to say about the new WUMPSCUT output? There’s light and shadows on ‘Fuckit’. On one side we have these absolutely unnerving demo-ish sounding tracks and repetitive trademark refrains in many of the songs and on the other hand there are a couple of good tracks I admittedly wouldn’t have expected anymore from Rudy.
