Album Review

It was as safe as the Bank of England that after the very successful ‘electropop.1’ the sophomore part of this new series would follow fresh off its heels and here it is already and will be released on next week’s Friday. This time presenting us a blue blur of colour it’s once again full of exclusive tracks from electro pop artists spread all over the globe. ALASKA HIGHWAY from Oregon makes the start with their track ‘Skyline’, a neat dance floor compatible track with partly old-school drum styling and mellow vocals. Next take’s coming from Sweden’s wonderful capital Stockholm from a project called DYNAMIKK ROLLER DUO. ‘Every Other Day’ is bound to a slower rolling pace mixed with sparkling synth movements and vocoded vocals. Guess what the next act EMMON comes from the same city and with ‘Secrets & Lies’ presents slightly more 80s influenced tunes subjacent to a beautiful voice bound to infiltrate the ears to resonate within the minds of listeners for a longer time to come.

Now let’s head back into the US with the LOW TECHNICIANS and ‘Miles Away’ developing a forceful and full-grown beat section and differing from all the other tracks by incorporating harder guitar riffs into the electronic sound. The vocals, however, lack a little substance; sound too thin for my liking. In contrast the following two tracks by MARLOW and OSTRICH have in stock for the listeners’ two flawless vocalists; especially the OSTRICH contribution ‘Sleepy Angels’ is going to lure you in with its carefully woven melancholia sometimes verging on the sorrowful. ‘Oh No Oh No!’ by RUPESH CARTEL comes to us with a nicely layered beat and the overly melodic chant carries us further into their sonic universe highlighted by a pure sing-along chorus that is sure to unfold its hypnotic effect swiftly. The last track by THE ULTRASONICS ‘Go Electro’ does it “Retro Electro” to quote some words off the lyrics. The beat is infectious and the vocals very melodious while being enveloped in distortion and vocoding effects.

Once again the makers of the series deliver a well-compiled collection of electronic pop gems that is sure to please any e-pop fan’s ears. Don’t expect any revolutionary new approaches though.
