Album Review

Electrostorm Vol.1 is, and who would’ve thought that, the start of a new compilation series initiated by the renowned German Electro label Out of Line and its aim is to unite the most influential acts of the dark music scene with one of their most club-compatible hits of the last one 1.5 years. That most of these artists are signed to Out of Line is just a coincidence, I think. Well, the compilation takes off with two quite prolific acts; one of them being indeed an influential act for decades and that is KIRLIAN CAMERA with one of the tracks off their last disc ‘Shadow Mission HELD V’ showing Elena’s impressing vocals framed by straight thuds of electronic machinery and the other one being AESTHETIC PERFECTION executing a down-tempo club pleasure with sometimes more and sometimes less distorted vocals.

The next two tracks originate from my two most favourite artists of all time: AGONOIZE and BLUTENGEL [Irony Mode Off] Sorry, but it’s still out of all reason for me how these projects could rise up to such a standing. The former one consistently overstepping the bounds of good taste lyrically and live and the other one… Well actually it’s the same thing with BLUTENGEL and its mastermind Chris Pohl who has become the undisputed master when it comes to riding the Goth cliché bull to death and being one of the worst singers I ever heard. But now on with something that can be considered true art: DIE FORM and one of their older tracks ‘Slavesex’ where cold mechanic rhythms meet the operatic vocals of Eliane P. With ‘Glory in the Highest’ shooting stars DIN[A]TOD contributed a track from their recently released new album ‘Westwerk’. The song displays the pure love for analogue equipment of the trio and Sven Claussen as always delivers his vocals cool as hell even if a bit more melodic than usual.

The next few tunes are a feat for the friends of poppy sounds with AUTO-AUTO, ELEGANT MACHINERY and ASHBURY HEIGHTS bringing you the full doze of melody and pleasantly sounding voices. Towards the end of the compilation it’s getting really hard with a package laced of a little harsh dark electro with the furious Mexicans of AMDUSCIA and their floor shaker ‘Perverse Party’ and good old EBM represented by CONTAINER 90 and the TURNBULL AC’S and the honour of wrapping up the comp goes to Steve Naghavi and AND ONE with their smooth and spherical ‘Paddy is my DJ’.

For club fanatics this is definitely one disc they can’t get around with tracks from well-established - if not necessarily good - scene acts and I think DJ’s will pleased to add it to their set as you can put  it into the player and leave it in the here until the disc ends.
