Album Review

WITHOUT WAX Is a German rock outfit consisting of four friends who’ve formed the band when all were around 13-15 years old! With the professionalism they’ve displayed they’ve impressed the likes of NENA & FURY IN THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE which they were already supporting on tour. Their debut album ‘We Should Believe’ which is about to be released next Friday was produced by Sigi Bemm, a man who’s been twiddling the knobs for big names such as KREATOR or TIAMAT already.

And the guys show they do really know how to handle their instruments in the course of their first album which is opened by the title track already, kicking off with an energetic start with drums pounding away under racing riffs before the orchestration strips down to a more acoustically defined section with Yannick beginning to deliver his somewhat raw vocals being a perfect fit for the music. ‘Innocence Fadin’ goes down a little faster started with restrained, melodic licks  first erupting in the chorus to roaring strength that makes a passionate rock fan want to go with the flow right away. ’No School Today’ while still having that driving rock attitude is also a song where a closer look and listen at the lyrics a saddening topic, dealing with the suicide attempt of a girl who’s according to the lyrics a very lonely and desperate person. Another song that is picking up a very serious and sadly still recent topic is ‘Kevin’s got a Gun’ telling about the amok run of a school colleague which could luckily be prevented by the police. One lucky case among so many where every help came too late! ‘Don’t get Mad’ gets into full blast right from the start, showing the guys letting their energy running wild on the instruments and vocals as well just to slow down about 90% on the last album track ‘Now I’m Here’, a soulful ballad with acoustic guitar and vocals.

Yes, they’re definitely better than the groups which emerged from a casting. They’re bursting with energy and joy of playing on their debut album and are also not scared of making more grave things a topic in their songs. A band worth keeping an eye out for!
