When word of a follow-up to 2008's ‘Eternal Damnation’ was announced who knew what would be expected except perhaps the unexpected? That is precisely correct - WINTER’S VERGE 2010 release ‘Tales of Tragedy’ pouring out 11 blistering tracks, each comprising of cold, damp, and the wettest conditions known to man-kind. Just like this California storm watch that has been thundering the Southland these last couple of days. So it’s a win/win situation.
‘World of Lies’ is the opening track and it alone portrays what this so-called ‘Tales of Tragedy’ is, which is nothing but a tragic disaster. Indeed the song comprises of smooth guitar riffs with overwhelming power metal vocal tactics to back it all up maintaining this wet wonderland of full force circumstances. ‘Dark Entries’ stirs it up a bit allowing this forsaken cold and wet downpour to an even darker aspect. The instruments getting heavier by the second as the undertone of heavy and light tends to compete with one another determined to see who's better than the other if you will. While it draws us to the closing points with ‘Reflections of the Past’ and ‘Curse of Time’, each demonstrating the real craftsmanship that their past creation managed to obtain.
WINTER’S VERGE latest addition is a round-up of tracks that captures the real downpour of what power metal can really toss around if you were caught up in a windy storm such as the one portrayed on the album cover.
