Italian electronic outfit WHITE PULP was founded by vocalist and guitarist Sonny who wanted to start a project with an appreciable slant into electronic direction. The band has its own approach to the process of creation and the songs are intended to convey a range of different emotions. So it can be noticed on the new release of the formation entitled ‘Lost Inc.’
The CD starts with intensive ‘Malediction’ in which strict, clear-cut melody is getting stronger every second. Measured beats and expressive riffs set off the vocals and it seems that the music will absorb all the words but it doesn’t happen as the tension slackens and the sounds fade away. The next song first creates a false feeling of pacification but then the melody is wrapped into a powerful electronic veil. The track also sticks in one’s memory thanks to its interesting arrangement yet the music stops too abruptly and there still remains some incompleteness. But it is replaced by another composition, and a listener is invited into a new attractive sonic trip. And then finally there goes light, more or less calm ‘Just like Me’ which strikes with its peculiar acoustic passages. Besides it is not over laden with electronic effects so the track turned out to be rather simple and accessible that gradually seizes a listener.
Maybe the best song on the album is the cover version of ‘Mad World’, immortal hit by TEARS FOR FEARS. The musicians really did a good job here: the composition sounds great and all the parts are in place so despite its simplicity the music produces a strong impression indeed. Ambient beginning of the next track immediately intrigues you but later the melody is getting richer and is closing vocals into a circle of quite cold sounds. As the CD proceeds the songs are getting more vigorous yet not too diverse nevertheless it is more than compensated by the acoustic pieces at the end of the album. Thus ‘Lost Inc.’ is a plus for WHITE PULP and of course fans of the band won’t be disappointed with this release.
