‘Verrückt nach dir’, or with its original title ‘Going The Distance’ just hit cinemas in Germany and what would a proper movie be without a soundtrack accompanying it. This soundtrack has been released a few days prior to the movie’s start and contains an illustrious collection of musical contributions starting with GENERATIONALS and their slightly melancholy flavoured opener ‘Either Way’ that could be coming from a movie way older as well, judging by the sound styling. GEORGIE JAMES comes along with a straight, not to hard indie song contrasted by her mellow vocals. ‘In Transit’ by ALBERT HAMMOND, JR goes for your ears and sticks with them. Nice little, catchy tune with a pinch of melancholy. With THE CURE’s ‘Just Like Heaven’ and THE PRETENDERS’ ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’ some classic tracks have made it onto the tracklist before the first of two songs of THE BOXER REBELLION takes off with ‘Spitting Fire’, a powerful and very spherical effort suitable for dreaming and dancing at the same time.
Their second track, which is following later, is called ‘If You Run’ and mood-wise remains on the same frequency as the previous one. CAT POWER presents us with a little foray into the blues until the EELS take you into another century with their ‘Prizefighter’ that deliberately sounds like it’s been recovered from a very old tape recording. PASSION PIT’s ‘The Reeling’ as ‘Groove Police Remix’ however is a genuine and cleanly modern, electronic dance track. The soundtrack’s wrapped up with the reduced and dreamy ballad ‘Half Of Something Else (Acoustic Version)’ by THE AIRBOURNE TOXIC EVENT. The soundtrack to this movie is a very catchy potpourri of styles and songs, some of which will stick with you longer; others won’t. The two tracks of THE BOXER REBELION are definitely killer.
