This complication is a cut through what artists Echozone has under its wings. So not only you’ll have 2 CDs to listen to, you can check the favourites individually right on the doorstep so to speak. The compilation is subtitled as ‘Dark Allure’, an accurate term as the listener will embark on the journey through the forest of sound, music and atmosphere it contains, he/she is slowly but surely going to become embraced and immersed in darkly beautiful music with a sense of excitement and discovery on the way.
First CD switches between electronic music and songs that incorporated guitar / Rock / Punk / Metal sound. Highlights worth mentioning are VIA OBSCURA’s ‘Sie’; the vocals between 80’s Goth, late 70’s post-punk and neo folk are amazing, the symphonic, piano components suit its melancholy epic feel, a truly wonderful song. SCHÖNGEIST ‘Böses Blut’ - the oriental (!) Goth is really striking and interesting, it has an immediate identity. STEALING THE BRIDE with ‘Cry Wolf’ is a witty, energetic and danceable song. Its final song GOLDEN APES’ ‘The Sea Inside’ is atmospheric, with a defined, rich mood, and is a superb song to end this collection with.
CD 2 ushers in EBM and Electro / Goth which is turning up degrees of darkness, tying up the two CD’s, each with slightly different concept and with the transition executed smoothly is another aspect to appreciate. The after-mid part of this CD has a psychedelic feel to it, luckily the songs are distinguishable, but before one could slump too much a faster pace picks up. Standing out tracks here are: THE DARK UNSPOKEN with ‘Wild life’, energetic, VNV -NATION orientated. DER ZIVILSCHUTZ ‘Du hast mir’ - its Garage / EBM / Electro fusion come off superbly. This is interesting and engaging collection altogether.
Whether one is a seasoned fan of the genres presented or a newcomer who is checking them out, it gives a great cut through the scene, it’s assembled together tastefully and with an acute feel for the music presented, also that a good deal of thought was spared on sequences and selection is apparent. Well managed diversity is for me the key. So here, I become a believer again that compilations after all are a good idea if the selection succeeds in creating a stimulating mix of artists and songs. This is achieved so it’s a should-get, definitely.
