Effenaar, Eindhoven, the Netherlands
24 November 2007
Welle:Erdball

An exclusive concert by the surprise of the 2006 version of Summer Darkness was taking place at de Effenaar in Eindhoven. Just half an hour before the show had to start the venue was hardly filled, but closing in to show time the venue was packed with a variety of people who wanted to see Welle:Erdball , hear Welle:Erdball and maybe even more experience Welle:Erdball.

The german superheroes of synthpop, Welle: Erdball, have made a name for themselves with their extremely melodic, retro-scented and dance-friendly pop tunes and unique live shows. http://www.welle-erdball.de/

Music & Performance
When the curtains open it seems like the entire garage of Welle:Erdball had been emptied and all of it's contents had been placed on stage. The show kicked off with the band wearing two masks, one flesh tone and one that looked like their inside was full of electronics. During the show all the parts became elements of the show, starting with the projection screens behind the two ladies. Combined with live footage projected on a makeshift screen held up by the women in stylish uniforms. Of course Honey had to stress the importance of the Commodore 64 and had to give one away, no idea however where they get enough of them to do this every show. And speaking of the Commodore 64, the band proved that it's sound qualities are still great with very deep basses and high pitched tones. The tunes once again resembled the computer games of the early 80's.

With giant balloons, paper airplanes and handing out sparkles to the audience W:E was able to get a close interaction with the audience. In the mean time the music kept on going well with nicely fitting vocals of Honey as well as the girls behind 50's style microphones and wearing matching clothes for the rest of the show. As with many electro acts the sound was very well balanced and the sound level was just good for the venue. The stage was filled with a wide variety of projections on the screen in the back and a very theatrical performance by all members of the band. Light was plenty and colourful making sure all the details and props were easy to see, almost leading to a impressions overflow. It almost looks like this was one of those rare concerts that seem perfect, but it wasn't completely.

Technical problems with the mini disk made sure that the pauze between some songs was a bit long. This was unfortunate but at the same time the enthusiasm of the band and their great show made sure that the overall impression of the show is just about perfect. The band announced they would be back next year at Summer Darkness and with two encores they said goodbye to the vivid crowd in Eindhoven.
