Nemesea
Working a as merchandise girl for Nemesea I always get to go and join them at a lot of great festivals and concerts. Today we were heading off for the Vier Seizoen Festival in Heerde…
Nemesea
Nemesea was founded in September 2002 in Groningen, The Netherlands. In April 2003 the band had their first performance as support act for After Forever, with whom they have been touring for over a year, as their steady support act. Now, Nemesea are touring The Netherlands on their own.
In November 2004 Nemesea released their debut album 'Mana' (meaning 'the magical power of things, given by the gods').

When building my merchandise stand 2 hours before the show I already saw that it was going to be hard to impress this audience. During every band that was playing tonight, the people were paying more attention to each other than to the bands, so when Nemesea started their intro followed by ‘Threefold Law’, a hand full off people reacted to it. When playing the Evanescence cover ‘Going under’ the attention of the audience grew al little bit more and Nemesea could hold on to that attention by playing more heavy songs like ‘Mortalitas’ and ‘Lucifer’. During the easy and beautiful songs like ‘Empress’ and ‘Angel in the Dark’ the audience seemed to drown back in their own world again…
Although the music was played and sung very well and the sound was great, Nemesea had a huge struggle this night. After ending with the new and great song ‘Broken’ they immediately disappeared from the stage and didn’t return for an encore.

Performance
Because of the lack of attention the audience showed to Nemesea or any of the other bands this night, the band wasn’t very eager to play. One or two times Manda (vocals) tried to make contact with the public by clapping, but only the people in front of the audience reacted to it. You could see that Nemesea, at that point, decided to play for the people in front of them and give them what they had left. Since the gig in So What, Gouda 2005 ‘Angel in the Dark’ is played very differently from the album version. Hendrik-Jan explained to me later what he done to upgrade to song: “The first thing I changed were the accents that came along 2.000 times. Then there's a short piece where we all take the speed train to France, that deletes the groove out of the song. Then I shortened the part before the guitar solo, this wasn't really a big contribution anyway. After that I changed the length of the guitar solo. Finally I changed the ending, I had to because I deleted the accents so I came up with a new riff which is almost the same as the main riff.” The band is really enjoying the song more and that is shown on stage. During the show the light was very good for the show as well as for the photographers.
In the end, I would like to say to the person that stole the taped Nemesea lighters of my merchandise table: Thanks a lot and enjoy them!
