bravefestival2013 logoThe Brave Festival is an event which stands on guard for endangered cultures, prevents customs and rituals around the world from being forgotten. Each year, the Festival invites to Poland extraordinary artists, who proudly represent the heritage of their ancestors. Their art also helps others - profits / the entire profit from ticket sales is donated to the charitable organization, ROKPA International.

This year, the 9th edition of The Brave Festival will take place in Wrocław and is entitled "Lost Rhythm". From 7th – 12th of July, in the European Capital of Culture 2016, you will be able to learn about musical traditions from around the world, including those from: Korea, Burundi, India, Morocco and South Africa, which, thanks to their isolation from global civilization have survived to this day in authentic, pristine form. The focus of this year's program is the rhythm which defines cultural identity and is a bridge between the external environment of man and his invisible bravefestival2013 posterspiritual realm. During concerts and performances at the Brave Festival, the audience will have the opportunity to participate in Korean ceremonies and rituals, hear songs of the Far East, see ‘Rajasthani’ hypnotic dance and feel the true power of African drums. A substantial addition to the projects presented during the festival will be a series of meetings, Brave Meetings, during which you can experience the disappearance of the barrier that divides the artists and the audience. Artists have the opportunity to talk about their culture and their socio-political situation, and to answer a number of questions. This creates an opportunity for personal contact with a foreign culture.

The Brave Festival will also feature 8 Film Reviews presenting a number of documentaries and feature films of a cultural-anthropological nature, which would otherwise be unavailable on a day-to -day basis to a cinema audience due to a limited or even non-existent distribution network. Additionally, séances will be accompanied by meetings with the artists themselves, as well as people thriving in related areas of expertise - reporters, travellers and filmmakers. This year,  apart from developing the theme of the series through the Brave Contexts program, and bringing closer unusual profiles of people via the Brave People Doc cycle, the Film Review will focus primarily on Cambodia - a country trying to recover from its own brutally administered rythmn. Due to the unprecedented tragedy caused by the oppressive Khmer Rouge regime, which is well-documented in modern history, Cambodia has cut the ties with traditions found in the world of its ancestors.

The festival will also include the 4th edition of Brave Kids - an international educational program. This year, Poland will be visited by more than a hundred children from 14 countries, including China, Uganda, Georgia, India, Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Iran and Laos. Children will participate in art workshops which will be simultaneously held in four cities: Wroclaw, Warsaw, Łódz and Puszczyków, near Poznan. In the next stage of the project, all groups will meet in the Lower Silesian town of Krośnice, where they will prepare a collective performance. It will be presented during the finale of The Brave Festival. The total income from Brave Festival ticket sales will be donated to charity. As with every year, the beneficiary of the event is the charitable organization, ROKPA International, which aims to help children in Tibet, Nepal and African countries.
