hurricane southside2015 logoIn about 100 days, the Hurricane and Southside Festivals open their gates from the 19th to the 21st June 2015 at the Eichenring Scheeßel and in Neuhausen ob Eck. The organisers of the twin festivals expanded the already strong line up by 20 further acts from the categories newcomer and established acts. The fans in North and South can look forward to Ben Howard, Angus And Julia Stone, Death From Above 1979, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Irie Revoltes, Suicidal Tendencies, the Counting Crowd, Dub FX, The Dø, Mø, Catfish And The Bottlemen, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Hoffmaestro, The Districts, Fidlar, Marmozets, Adam Angst, Sunset Sons and John Coffey.

In Beck's CampFM interview with moderator Melle, Stephan Thanscheidt, CEO of FKP Scorpio and Head of Festival Booking, explains that it has been a productive but in comparison with the preceding years challenging year regarding the booking of headliners: “We do all we can to shape a high quality and very diverse line-up for the people. By this, we are dependent on an artist's availability, routing problems and all this stuff we cannot influence. Nevertheless, we are content and the overall mood is positive since we have a great program of great width and we will engage more acts for 2015. At the same time, the ticket price will not be increased this year.” The whole podcast can be listened to here: Beck's CampFM.

The newly confirmed bands in alphabetic order

Adam Angst
Adam Angst? There was something! Rising from the ashes of Frau Potz, the former singer Felix has united with likeminded friends from FJØRT, Blackmail and Monopeople in order to give full scope to his passion with direct words and distorted guitars. Adam Angst prove incidentally that social criticism or an antifascist attitude do not equate dull paroles like “Fucking cops, fucking government”. It can be different and it gets better: with an unmistakable and precise diction which is littered by small details. Only few German-speaking rock bands deserve the golden stamp “relevance”. Adam Angst could become one of them. Some will turn away, others will love it. But Adam Angst won't become one thing: indifferent.

Angus & Julia Stone
They are finally back on tour again. Not saying that we didn't enjoy the solo expeditions of Julia Stone and her brother Angus, on the contrary. Angus' solo record ‘Broken Brights’ as well as Julia's ‘By the Horns’ were great, the supporting shows were a dream. But somehow everything that those two siblings do belongs together. Not without a reason were the shows of Angus & Julia Stone completely sold out last November. One cannot and doesn't want to miss this successful duo at the moment. The more we are excited that Angus & Julia Stone, the high-riders from Australia, will blow the audience's mind with their extraordinary live shows this summer!

Ben Howard
Ben Howard is not like any other singer-songwriter. With his first record ‘Every Kingdom’, the talented Londoner knew how to convince with wonderful songs, fantastic melodies and extraordinary guitar skills. It sounds a bit pathetic but Ben Howard has matured with his second record ‘I Forget Where We Were’ – and that as a 27 years old! The majority of his new songs last longer than 5 minutes and despite the calmness and aloofness it never gets boring. The circuitousness, the atmospheric, virtually the monumental, that the songs of ‘I Forget Where We Were’ are based on, seem perfect for a festival set during dusk!

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
By throwing sexiness of a Swedish cheerleader group, the loudness of a starting jet fighter and the badass-attitude of a football team of Lemmy Kilmister clones into a black hole, one gets the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club on the other side of the universe. The guitars are too much for you, the beat too powerful and you cannot cope with the recklessness of this live band. Or can you? Okay, let's chance it when the BRMC enters our stage and leaves only mayhem. Because of bands like these festivals, instruments and Rock’n’Roll were founded. Or what do you think?

Catfish And The Bottlemen
One always has to be a bit careful when one is introduced to the new big thing from Great Britain, the fresh mountain air in cans, the slices and pre-buttered sandwich, well, basically, to the new best music of all times. But not so with Catfish and The Bottlemen. The first big England tour of the Welsh guys was already sold out before the release of their debut record. By the way, no other band has achieved that since the Arctic Monkeys. Speaks for itself, eh? Besides, and this is the beautiful thing about Catfish and The Bottleman, the guys do not want to re-invent indie rock but they want to play the best gigs in the world with loud guitars, great vocals, sing-along choruses and straight noise. They were already on festival tour on the British Isles last year and left a brilliant impression. This summer they continue where they stopped last summer – throwing the audience out of their sandals with their explosive sound.

Counting Crows
Counting Crows released a folk rock mile stone for the marriage of grunge in 1993. One could talk of bad timing but ''August And Everything After'' stormed the charts what only records of Kurt Cobain and similar bands did back then. Their debut record was nominated for two Grammys and enjoyed a sevenfold platinum status in the US 3 years later. But the best about them is: since front man Adam Duritz coped with the success of Counting Crows quite well he lives until today, and has released countless further records as well as soundtracks for popular films with his band and can be regularly seen live. Because folk rock makes happy.

Death From Above 1979
After years of silence, Death From Above 1979 are back and serve a musical tornado with their second record ''The Physical World'' which vehemently reminds us that the wild romance between punk and disco hasn't died yet. The dominant kickass-factor amazes until today and makes every other rock band look like a bunch of good choir boys. Irresistible is the proverb when the drilling punk beats by drummer Sebastien Grainger meet the distorted bass rhythms by Jesse F. Keeler, forming into a potent bastard of Motörhead bass and electronically displaced indie rock which transform every stage into a shelter of arduous love and shimmering luck.

Dub FX
Sometimes, talent is known to be given in gallons to certain people while others get nothing. Considering that, Benjamin Stanford alias Dub FX must have stood at the front of the line because what this man creates merely with his vocals and some precisely deployed loops and effects is simply sensational! Classic beat-boxing meets 21st century technology and transforms Dub FX into a one-man-super-dance-band. Drum'n'Bass, reggae and Dubstep are stuck together in real time and this means that every song sounds different at every concert. That is not only an acoustic firework but it's also captivating to look at. Attention: master at work!

Fidlar
Ready for some intonated daredevilism? Then Fidlar are the right thing for you – the Californian surf'n'roll quartet serves post-apocalyptic garage punk hymns with established three-accords-efficiency  that prick beer cans themselves and delivers the pizza onto the rooftop of your family's living room. Dissolute, reckless and guaranteed bad behaviour – the boorish descendants of the Beach Boys welcome you – let the others think about the world, Fildar rather celebrate complete escalation. The guys understand how to flirt with the surfer and skater image of their home town L.A. And will deliver a freaking great time this summer with their hot and bolshy guitars and their rotating drumbeats.

Hoffmaestro
Hoffmaestro is an eleven-strong band that has gained the reputation of being one of the most energetic and explosive live experiences that has ever come from Sweden. They are known for delivering organised chaos that will let no one stand still – in the true sense of the word. Their shows transform clubs and festival stages into wild party zones. Their music jumps around the world between ska, reggae, techno, New Orleans funk, country, rock and everything else and takes what it needs. Only rule: Nothing shall limit the artistic creativity as long as it feels right and good in the moment and creates an unique sound. That is considered freedom, by the way, and feels absolutely fantastic live.

Irie Révoltés
When Irie Révoltés storm the stage they cause a rebellion. Show after show – with no exception. Unimpressed by trends and hypes, the band creates its own sound in which one can find elements of reggae and ska but also rap, punk and electro. Their audience proves that Irie Révoltés always finds the right mix when it's show time: they go crazy! Irie Révoltés want to move something, one can find that in their critical texts and feel it at their shows. And their message hits home. The band reaches more and more people with every record. After raising the roof in 17 countries across Europe with their last record ALLEZ, they are preparing for their next coup. The new record will be released punctually during the festival season and will let the audience completely freak out!

John Coffey
To avoid misunderstanding, this is not about the adorable man from The Green Mile who brought everyone to tears. John Coffey are Richard and Alfred Van Luttikhiuzen, Carsten Willem, Jan Brunsveld, David Achtern De Molen, Christoffer Erik Borgaard Van Teijlingen and their neat moustaches. The guys are adorable without a doubt but on stage other rules rule. Imagine a steam engine that approaches in full speed and destroys everything. The five true Dutchs throw dirty guitar riffs paired with David's bolshy sing-song right into your face. Impeccable punk'n'roll is created which takes away your breath, lets your underwear and soaked shirts fly, shakes the house and makes the roof drip.

Kodaline
For the Irish quartet Kodaline music is not simply music but at the same time it's therapy as a look at the founding times suggests. Back then, singer Steve Garrigan and guitarist Mark Prendergast helped each other to overcome the breakups with their partners and channelled their emotions into songs about love and loss. With the help of bassist Jason Boland and drummer Vinny May a beautifully diverse sound has been created that consists of epic-broad guitar sounds, climactic choruses and the characteristically high voice of front singer Steven Garrigan. Especially in connection with infectious hooks and the choral choruses, the stories by Kodaline create an irresistible undertow that will carry you away this summer!

Marmozets
Marmozets, or: the story of two sibling families that have fought with their united devotion for music for their deserved acknowledgement as one of Great Britain's shiny new hopes, despite hardships. Singer Becca Macintyre, whose whirling energy is the centre of the riotous live shows of the band, guitarist Jack Bottomley and bassist Will Bottomley have been making music together for years and have sacrificed a lot – among others, their academic success which burdens them the least, though. Due to increasing critical success, tours followed with Funeral for a Friend, Young Guns and Four Year Strong and festival sets at Download, Reading and Leeds. Their debut ‘The Weird  and the Wonderful Mamorzets’ is as hot as the midday sun that will move you from your tents to the stage.

Karen Marie Ørste, alias MØ, is brave without a doubt. She openly admits that the reason for her creativity was the first Spice Girls record. But let's be honest: we should accept Eurodance as a first inspiration for making music when such a genius bastard of electronica, pop, exciting arrangements and moving strangeness comes out of it. The Danish eccentric allied quickly with big stars like Diplo and Avicii in order to release her records with Sony Music. The special thing about  MØ is that you can literally hear that the end of her creativity is not in sight. We have to expect a lot from this lady in the future!

Suicidal Tendencies
Unwrap the bandana, wield the baseball cap umbrella and lubricate the vocal chords because the only true surf teachers of crossover are ready – of course we are talking of no one else but Suicidal Tendencies! Mike Muir and following have coined like no band before the highly infectious mix of Hardcore, punk, metal and funk and are still style-defining after 30 years of existence. The unstoppable groove is as legendary as their relaxed attitude that does not only reflect in their texts that hold up the mirror to you selectively by irony, sarcasm or provocation and kick your grey cells' ass between circle pit and sing-along. Cycos unite!

Sunset Sons
The music by the Sunset Sons is as drained with eternal easiness, never-ending sunsets at the beach and childish-strange restlessness as their sunny and surf-esque album cover of their current record ''No Bad Days''. Of course pop is written with big letters for the Sunset Sons and their smoky-bold timbre and their handmade instrumentation is coated in sugar. Easiness meets snot, catchiness meets denial of reality and the unconnected the pulse. It's a fact that we could all use much more sun in daily life and Sunset Sons are the first step to that.

St. Paul & The Broken Bones
Janeway sings like a young Motown god! This guy sounds like his really great old idols Otis Redding, James Carr or O.V. Wright with his six-strong band. The debut ''Half The City'' by St. Paul & The Broken Bones is a really big piece of Southern Soul. This authenticity is not least created by returning to analogue equipment. This good old feeling is great as no band in our musical cosmos has set such precise and sharp blower movements, such concrete tact in a long time and it's also been a long time since we've heard a singer who has sung with as much blues and soul! St. Paul & The Broken Bones – that's pure sexiness, get ready!

The Districts
The indie rock quartet The Districts is already now considered to be THE newcomer 2015. That's not only because of their greatly eccentric mix of Americana, LoFi and blue rock but also an invitation to the legendary BBC radio session. There the quality of the four younglings became clear once again. The radio station called The Districts rightfully ''new favourite band''. With a supposedly playful easiness does the band thrill with cranky retro guitar sound, that unites the coolness and catchiness of the honourable The-bands with a proper rattle factor. The untameable energy of their front singer Rob Grote does one more thing to the energetic live shows and ensures a melodic Rock’n’Roll firework of the very best class!

The Dø
The French-Finnish duo The Dø understands how to bend the most different styles according to all rules of art and to reinterpret them. Their songs as minimalistic as they are complex, their aesthetic pop convinces by focusing on synthetic dance sounds and percussions that crawls wonderfully straightforward into your sound systems and makes you follow willingly the lips of singer Olivia Merilahti into a great adventure that offers great and catchy melodies between small stories and big epics. The Dø succeed in making intellectual as well as intuitive music and by this, they forge bridges between present and future. This diverse approach and the untameable joy at experimenting is also a live trademark of the duo that guarantees the sweetest madness for head and legs!
