notp2015 logoOMD and Maria Mena are among The Beach Boys and Johannes Oerding at the Proms 2015! Now the final line-up of this year's Night of the Proms edition has been settled. Among the Beach Boys, Johannes Oerding, John Miles and the tenor Fernando Varela; OMD and Maria Mena will present their best-known hits in a symphonic attire together with the symphony orchestra II Novecento and the choir Scala & Kolacny Brothers. The organisers rely on a wide spectrum for the 22nd German edition of Europe's most successful festival tour. Also German rock and the best of 300 years of classic music will be presented among Californian Beach sound, British new wave and Norwegian pop. A spectacular light and projection show will round out the musical menu.

The name Beach Boys has been standing for a lifestyle between eternal summer, beach and on-going youth for 50 years now. Their Californian surf sound caters until today euphoric reactions at their shows around the world. But way fewer people know that The Beach Boys are also pioneers of their time. As the first band, they produced their hits in their own studio and delivered with ‘Pet Sounds’ a revolutionary album that did not only inspire the Beatles and much more bands but also brought them the Grammy for the ‘Millennium record’ in 1999.

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, short OMD, belong to the finest what the British new scene in England brought forth at the beginning of the eighties. Andy McClusky and Paul Humphreys are old friends of the Night of the Proms since they were already on the guest list in 2006 and presented their greatest hits like ‘Sayling on the Seven Seas’ or ‘Maid of New Orleans’ for the first time together on a German stage. Especially their synth ballads are given a downright bombastic dimension by the symphony orchestra.

Maria Mena already achieved her breakthrough when she was sixteen when the song ‘My Lullaby’ about her parents' divorce was written. Her father went with the demo tape to the office of Norway's best-known music manager who was moved to tears by the song. He immediately signed Maria. In the following years, Maria Mena became one of the most successful Scandinavian artists, undertaking great tours through Europe and releasing numerous hit singles like ‘You Are The Only One’, ‘Just Hold Me’ and ‘All this Time’. She was nominated in the category “Newcomer of the year” at the ECHOs in 2008.

The promoter was able to engage a German musician in Johannes Oerding who has been playing in German venues and clubs on a successful wave for three years now. He has been on tour with Joe Coker and the Scorpions, delivered the vice-title for the Bundesvision Song Contest and delivers with his third and current record ‘Alles brennt’ an emotional and very personal musical statement which immediately entered position 4 of the German charts after its release. Now he will present his hits for the first time accompanied by a big symphony orchestra.

Fernando Varela comes from Puerto Rico and discovered his love for classical vocals as a teenager. The tenor was discovered on YouTube by the 16-times Grammy award winner and producer David Foster. From there, there was no stopping. Performances in 31 countries quickly catered co-operations with very big stars like Barbra Streisand, Lionel Richie or Neil Diamond. The promoters present Fernando Varela as this year's classic soloist of the Night of the Proms.

One of the backbones of the classic-meets-pop-spectacle is probably the choir of the Night of the Proms. The “home choir” Fine Fleur will take a break this year because the Belgian indie rock choir Scala & Kolacny Brothers could be won for the 22nd German edition of the tour. Scala & Kolacny Brothers choose indie rock classics and indie songs and transform them into elegiac hymns with breath-taking effects. The choir is usually only occupied by Steven Kolacny on the piano. One can be curious how the choir will sound like with the support of a full symphony orchestra.

What would the Night of the Proms be without him and his proms hymn? “Mister Music” John Miles will again prove his incredible talent at the microphone, guitar and on the piano this year. Miles has not only been contributing the musical motto of the tour with ‘Music’ for more than 30 years now but he also provides yearly highlights with his interpretations of rock and pop hits in the three-hours-long programme of this multimedia artwork.
