WAVE GOTING TREFFEN is not a usual festival. Again there are several great events around the usual concerts:

When We Were Young III

The official “Old School Goth Aftershow Party” WHEN WE WERE YOUNG will take place fort he third Time now in the frame of the festival - again this year in the glittering building of the “Volkspalast” on the old “Messegelände” (Prager Straße 200 (Alte Messe, Halle 16), 04103 Leipzig). On the tables, you’ll get nine well-known international DJs from five different countries playing Goth, Deathrock, Post Punk, Indie and Batcave. This selection promises a delicate evening for all fans of any sort of dark guitar sounds far away from Metal. To accompany the music, several rare Goth videos will be shown.

Monumentum II - Licht sehen: 25th May 2007 / 23:12 Völkerschlachtdenkmal Leipzig

The 91 metres high “Völkerschlachtdenkmal” is one of the best known monuments in Germany. No one can escape from its giant charisma. From the start, this monument was fascinating with its spiritual power you could feel when seeing it and entering it. As an opening event for this year’s WGT, the exceptional architecture and atmosphere of the monument will be accented in an unique synthesis of light and sound.

British band IN THE NURSERY – well-known for ambitious composing work at the border from classical to electronic music – created just for this event a piece of musical art based on the works i.e. of Richard Wagner, Gustav Mahler, Franz Liszt and Edvard Grieg. All of those artists had a special relation to Leipzig. Their compositions had been interwoven to a new entity through the brothers Klive and Nigel Humberstone who will also make music at that evening.

With never seen complex light arrangements in eight dramaturgical layers, the contours, surface and structures of the monument will be drawn with light. So, the building will be pulled out of the dark step by step and brought to life. MONUMENTUM II will present an unforgettable artistic scenery. Entrance to this event is free.

GLITTER+TRAUMA ++ A QUEER WAVE PARTY

Whitsun in Leipzig is traditionally black. Zacker invites the “queer” subculture to their official WGT party on Friday, 25th May. Gay-lesbian Gothic boys and girls can look forward to a wild and dark-pink dance night. Musically, the night will move between Guitar Wave, Gothic Classics, New Wave, Sub80s, Minimal Elektro, Indieschock, Postpunk and Queer Rock'n'Roll. As a highlight, lovelovelove from Montreal will enter the stage with an extravagant concert. No tears for the creatures of the night!
