Quota, language guardians and ignorant media. You could expose yourself to more little resistors, if you want to get a certain reputation as a band in France. But NEIMO chose the harder way and now are pioneers of a new generation of French bands who want to break through the old structures to reach new shores. NEIMO songwriter Bruno spent a big part of his life in the US, which is why he chose English as language where he’s able to express himself better, bringing up three problems: Quota, language guardians and ignorant media, as the French quota protects the bands doing music in French from the invasion of the pop heroes, devoted to the Anglicism.

Of course NEIMO could have given in and could have translated the lyrics into French, but Bruno didn’t, instead the band gigged in the states. Jeff Ayeroff, founder of Virgin US, subsidiary CEO of Warne and today, head of the US indie label Shangri-la provided for veni vidi; and NEIMO eventually for vici, followed by Aeroff’s spontaneous decision to sign the band, but there was more to come. With Alan Moulder, they could find a producer, i.e. working with ARCTIC MONKEYS, MY BLOODY VALENTINE and SMASHING PUMPKINS. Together they created ‘Modern Incidental’, an album with the affinities to BLONDIE, STROKES, THE SMOTHS and NEWORDER. From these ingredients they created a cocktail named NEIMO n the rocks and even the French people have come to like it in the meantime.

Regardless of any regulations, the single ‘Hot Girl’ conquered the French radio stations. At the youth radio station ‘Le Move’, they landed on #1 of the indie charts and Oui FM, a big TV channel with lots of influence on other radio stations included them in their play list as first non-French signed band. This was the starting signal for the second French revolution. That they not only have created a great album with ‘Modern Incidentals’ but also are a great live band could be witnessed during their support gig for FOTOS. Another proof will be their gig at the Visions party on 13th November at the SoCo Limelight in Cologne
