She was born as Caterina Barbieri in Italy. Actually a far too pretty name to hide it behind an alias. “I’ve played for many years in a band called VIGNITI BASS, before I eventually started my solo project, which was – at the beginning – only a One-Woman project and suddenly I was ‘myself’ and in a project with my name. That was a little too much ‘Me’ for me. To have an alias is like having a second identity. Like Clark Kent working under the alias ‘Superman’, with the difference that MISSINCAT has no super powers Hence a super talent with a super voice.”

Besides her taking part in the festival, she as well could acquire the Heineken Jammin Festival as sponsor of her first album, paying the studio costs. Ever since that performance, nothing’s like it used to be as MISSINCAT practiced her solo set together with a cellist, who’s ever since a fixed member in her live set, even if the name of the cellist is a different one today. Only for one time she had to relinquish her cellist since. As support of AMY WINEHOUSE during her Germany tour, where she was alone on stage. Another big chance she took, not only attested by the reporter of the intro magazine:

“As Amy Winehouse’s support, Missincat was invited, standing alone with her acoustic guitar in front of the curtain. She brought some placid, balladry tunes, wonderfully carried by her mellow voice, being able to conquer the vastness of the already quite packed venue well.” Subsequently to the tour she went into the studio to record her debut album. She produced it herself. “I went with the songs I’ve already recorded on my laptop incl. all arrangements into the studio and already had concrete visions of how they would have to sound. The arrangements were supposed to be very minimalist; I’m working after the motto: Less is more.”

‘Back on my Feet’ pays tribute to her idols from HE BEATLES, VELVET UNDERHGROUND, LEONARD COHEN, NICK DRAKE, BILLY HOLIDAY to SIGUR ROS and furthermore comprises everything that defines MISSINCAT: An expressive voice, minimal arrangements and emotionally-charged songs. “I still can feel my heart breaking when I’m singing a sad love song. I’m very honest in dealing with my songs – in both: Writing and performing…” ‘Back on my Feet’ is going to be released on 20th February 2009.
