Blutengel

Do melody and pop appeal necessary rule out himself. When we speak of BLUTENGEL we can clearly say no. The band which arose from the fetish electro project SEELENKRANK founded by scene icon Chris Pohl in 1998 was planned as a bridge from the beginning. Elements of electronic music and euro dance are combined with the symbols and the romanticism of the Gothic novel and classic horror movies as well as some fetish erotic to create a catchy blend with a dark touch. It is clear from the fact that the character of a vampire has a fixed place in the literature of the 20th and 21st century, that the dark side has an enormous mass appeal, if you rehash it correctly. The visual and textual layers of BLUTENGEL are closely interwoven. Dark pictures and romantic stories about vampires and the longing for the eternal life are accentuated by sounds that are sometimes club-friendly, sometimes have a little elegiac pomp and sometimes are highly catchy.

BLUTENGEL create a lot of tension with the interplay of the genders. Both female band members are a counterpoint to mastermind and singer Chris Pohl - in a visual way as well as when it comes to singing. The line-up often changed in the 10 year band history, while Chris Pohl always was the constant as the mastermind and songwriter. The recent line-up consists of Chris Pohl, the singers Constanze Rudert and Ulrike Goldman as well as the dancer Sonja..

Their first album 'Chid of Glass' was already a remarkable success in the scene. This should continue with the following album 'Seelenschmerz'. The sales figures were that good that Chris Pohl could no longer reject the inquiries for a live performance. The stage debut of BLUTENGEL took place in June 2001 at the 'Wave Gotik Treffen' in Leipzig. They performed for over 10.000 fans there. In the following time the band toured around the world and often appeared at European festivals.

The following album 'Angel Dust' which was released in 2002 showed that BLUTENGEL were able to blast the borders of the so called 'Schwarze Szene' and to reach people from beyond that seen as well. The album climbed up to the Top 100 of the German media control single charts. The following album 'Angel Dust' (2004) and the singles 'No Eternity' (2004) and 'Oxidising Angel' (2005) found their place in the charts as well. The new album 'Labyrinth was released on the 14th September 2007 and continues the path, chosen on the 'The Oxidising Angel EP' but also reminds a little bit of the old 'Angel Dust' 'Seelenschmerz' and SEELENKRAMK times. BLUTENGEL created a real moody concept with 'Labyrinth' that fits perfectly to the beginning of this colourful and romantic autumn time.

The stars are shining bright for this band that is out there again, to show the world that pop music and fantasy are a really good couple. BLUTENGEL are performing live at the Factory in Magdeburg on the 13th October 2007.
