Amon Amarth
AMON AMARTH is a Viking-themed melodic death metal band from Sweden founded in 1992 in Tumba, named after a location in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. The five Swedish musicians are known for their songs based on Norse mythology. Formed under the name SCUM, they switched to the name AMON AMARTH in 1992. With the release of the album ‘Once Sent from the Golden Hall’ in 1998 their popularity rose on an international level and since has brought forth multiple U.S. tours, four music videos, and appearances in over 100 metal magazines.
Saxon
SAXON are an English heavy metal band, formed in 1976 in Barnsley, Yorkshire. As leading lights in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal they had a brief period of UK Top 40 success in the early 1980s, and also tasted success in Europe and Japan. They still tour heavily and regularly. Their latest (in support of ‘The Inner Sanctum’ album) tour is their largest in the UK since the early 1980s. Until this, the band's fame had been focused largely in Germany for many years.
Sodom
SODOM is a German thrash metal band formed in 1982. They are considered one of the three biggest German thrash metal bands; the other two being KREATOR and DESTRUCTION. While the other two big German thrash metal bands created a sound that would later influence death metal, SODOM stands out uniquely among its contemporaries as creating a sound that would later greatly influence many black metal bands, among others, that would form in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Within Temptation
WITHIN TEMPTATION is a Dutch metal band. The band was founded in 1996 by vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. Their music is variously described as symphonic metal, as well as gothic metal in some media, although in an interview, den Adel said they fell into a symphonic rock genre. It took until 2001, when they became known by the general public, with the single ‘Ice Queen’ from the album ‘Mother Earth’, which reached #2 on the charts. Their next album ‘The Silent Force’ immediately reached first position in the charts. Their latest album, ‘The Heart of Everything’, also reached this position immediately.
