Download Festival 2009

Rock fans from all over the globe will be travelling in their thousands to Donington Park on the weekend of June 12th-14th for more metal mayhem and the UK based festival has revealed its first set of headliners.

The recently reformed alternative metal band Faith No More, will headline the Friday for their first gig since their dissolution in 1998. Considered to be one of the most influential rock bands with influences from genres such as jazz, progressive rock, thrash metal and hip hop, the return of Faith No More is sure to attract interest.

New metal giants Slipknot will headline the Saturday. Last year Slipknot were forced to pull out of Leeds Fest due to drummer Joey Jordison injuring his foot but following their hugely successful All Hope Is Gone world tour, Corey Taylor and crew are in town and primed to shake Download to the core! Slipknot's live show is truly something to behold and they are THE band to see this year for me!

On the Sunday 80's rockers Def Leppard are in town. Having played Donington Park at the old Monster's Of Rock Festival in 1986, Def Leppard return to play Download for the first time having sold 65 million albums worldwide including the sale of 35 million albums in the USA alone. In the 80's Def Leppard came second only to the legendary Van Halen in US record sales, and following the success of their 2008 album Songs from the Sparkle Lounge it will be interesting to see how they compare with the up and coming or contemporary bands at Download.

Other prominent bands to have been announced include drum and bass/electro legends The Prodigy who will be following up a sell-out UK Arena Tour, Korn, Marilyn Manson will be returning to Download, Whitesnake, metal legends Motley Crue, popular rap metal band Limp Bizkit, Pendulum and rock and roll hall of famers ZZ Top.
