Betty Blitzkrieg - Voodookind

BETTY BLITZKRIEG’s biography is an abstruse mixture of fictions and overstatements saying he’s the son of a godfather and a whore dying of an overdose after giving birth to him in a train station restroom and just as eccentric as that sounds is the music on this 12 tracks including intro. There seems to be not much room for calm in his self-created universe as except for the relatively down-temp piece ‘Geblasen in den Wind’ whose rhythm section was coarsened with bit-crushing effects, every single track no matter which one you pick has this in-your-face attitude and goes straight forward grounding on a highly energetic mixture of punk rock and electronics.

So far so good and not really a revolution but what’s making the real difference in his music actually is the vocals which are sounding like FALCO himself had been revived from the dead, that is, he’s transported the arrogance FALCO was known for into the new millennium and you’re buying it absolutely. The lyrics are solely in German but are delivered like they’ve undergone a word-by-word translation from the English which makes them sound pretty ridiculous at times. Most prominent examples for that are ‘Es macht mich aufstehen’ or ‘Affengeschäft’. So can we take this whole thing serious or not? The best answer probably is not entirely. The whole thing might appear ridiculous and pubertal but I guess I’m not so far off when I say it’s all on purpose and that he’s laughing up his sleeve when people think just that.
