Album Review

FLIEHENDE STÜRME, Germany's masters of despair, hopelessness, gloom and angst, are back again to aid discerning listeners with feeling both pissed off and on the verge of suicide, or simply to give a reason to go out and get drunk in an effort to drown one's Weltschmerz in alcoholic stupor. ‘Warten auf Raketen’ is another fine display of raw, driving, yet bleak and depressive punk tunes, offering an antidote and a counterweight to idiotically happy "punk" bands from the other side of the Atlantic, or NME's newest pseudo-post punk Indie darlings of the week. Whatever the case, the STÜRME have delivered another good album chock-full of trademark songs, melodies, hook lines and lyrics.

Songs such as ‘Schatten’ (Shadows) and the rather electronic ‘Tiefe’ (Depth) are certainly bound to make their way onto the odd Goth dance-floor (at least in Germany), whereas the more punky tracks will make the live crowd twist in sweet melancholy in front of the stage. Either that, or they'll simply be an outstanding soundtrack for feeling desperate, lonely and getting very drunk. After all, as FLIEHENDE STÜRME sing: "Kummer trinkt Alkohol" (Sorrow drinks alcohol).
